Is the 2021 Kia Seltos a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Kia Seltos earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its great looks, comfortable handling, and strong value for money. They also like the numerous standard features and safety technologies, which reinforces the sense that you get a lot for the money.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, and some drivers want more horsepower and a few extra comfort features. In practical terms, the Seltos fits you best if you want a small SUV that feels polished, modern, and well equipped rather than stripped down.

With 32.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is meaningful room to find a competitive price.

Is the 2021 Kia Seltos reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the car’s value, comfort, and standard equipment. That kind of response usually suggests you can count on the vehicle to deliver the basics well over time.

The expert notes also emphasize that the Seltos feels well put together and more complete than many rivals, which supports confidence in everyday use. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term risk is less about the concept and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Seltos?

At 74.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because the market includes a notable number of cars with accident history, condition matters as much as mileage and price.

Pay close attention to how the cabin, controls, and drivetrain feel on a test drive, since the Seltos is meant to be a polished small SUV. If you’re comparing listings, focus on whether the equipment level matches the trim and whether the vehicle shows signs of hard use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX starts with 17-inch alloy wheels, manually adjustable front seats, remote keyless entry, power windows with a one-touch-down driver’s window, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The S adds LED daytime running lights, integrated roof rails, leatherette-and-cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and blue dash stitching. The EX adds machine-finish alloy wheels, darker tinted windows, a sunroof with power sunshade, LED interior lighting, full leatherette upholstery, a 10-way power driver’s seat, automatic climate control, and wireless charging. The S Turbo and SX Turbo add the more powerful engine, with the SX Turbo also bringing the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, upgraded stereo, rear cargo cover, and LED fog lamps.
• Powertrain: The LX, S, and EX use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 146 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive or AWD. The S Turbo and SX Turbo use a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and standard AWD. The base engine is fine around town but feels weak at highway speeds, while the turbo engine has much stronger passing power.
• Safety package: All trims but the base LX include forward-collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. The EX adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The SX adds adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go, cyclist detection, and a feature that helps detect whether it is safe to exit the vehicle when parallel parking.
• Infotainment: The LX and S use an 8-inch touchscreen, while the SX Turbo gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen. The S also includes a 3.5-inch TFT digital screen in the instrument panel, and the SX Turbo upgrades to a 7-inch digital display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the larger screen can display them while still leaving room for other information.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.0-liter engine with front-wheel drive returns 29 mpg city, 34 highway, and 31 combined. With AWD, that engine returns 27 mpg city, 31 highway, and 29 combined. The 1.6-liter AWD turbo model is rated at 25 mpg city, 30 highway, and 27 combined.

Which 2021 Kia Seltos trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Seltos is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, S, EX, S Turbo, and SX Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials, including the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Seltos, but it misses the driver-assistance suite that comes on the higher trims.
• S: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more style and convenience, including LED daytime running lights, roof rails, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the 3.5-inch digital instrument display. It also keeps the same basic powertrain, so you get more equipment without jumping too far in price.
• EX: This trim is the comfort-focused pick, adding a sunroof, wireless charging, automatic climate control, and a power driver’s seat. It is a good fit if you want a more upscale daily driver and can live with the base engine.
• S Turbo: This is the smart upgrade if you care most about performance, since it brings the stronger turbocharged engine and standard AWD. It also adds more driver-assistance features, making it the best all-around choice if you want more power without going all the way to the top trim.
• SX Turbo: This is the most fully equipped version, with the 10.25-inch touchscreen, upgraded stereo, LED fog lamps, rear cargo cover, and the most advanced driver-assistance content. It suits you best if you want the most technology and convenience in the lineup.

The safety-package gap is important: the base LX does not get the full driver-assistance suite, so many buyers will be happier starting at the S or higher.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Seltos?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 908 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.33% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,821, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Seltos's resale value?

The current average of $15,839 sits slightly below last year's $17,277.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry price today. For a future seller, it also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim, since the model is already trading below its prior-year average.

The good news is that a well-equipped, well-kept Seltos should still attract interest because it offers a strong mix of value, space, and features. If you maintain it carefully and keep the history clean, you improve your odds of holding onto demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Seltos safe?

The 2021 Kia Seltos earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring, and rear-seat child-seat anchor latches. The driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams on all trims except the base LX.

The EX adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the SX adds adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go, cyclist detection, and a feature that helps detect whether it is safe to exit the vehicle when parallel parking. That means safety equipment improves meaningfully as you move up the lineup, and the base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Seltos or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model introduces the Seltos with a high-quality cabin, modern tech, and strong handling.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $17,655, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $15,839 average.
• Kia expands driver-assist and 10.25-inch touchscreen availability to more trims.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the stronger buy because it already delivers the core Seltos strengths at a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for broader feature availability, the 2022 is the better path for shoppers who want extra tech and driver-assist access without moving to the top trim.
