How much does the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 11.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,499 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — with a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating, it lands as a strong choice for shoppers who value style and capability. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise the spacious interior, smooth ride, impressive power, advanced technology features, and luxury feel. The overview also points you toward the Grand Cherokee’s stylish design, premium interior materials, and great handling, which help explain why it still feels appealing even as an outgoing model.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, and some owners felt the tech content and fuel economy lagged what you might expect for the price. That makes it a better fit if you care more about comfort, character, and driving feel than maximum efficiency or the newest standard equipment.

With 32.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially because they describe it as spacious, smooth-riding, and powerful. That same feedback also suggests you can count on it for a comfortable daily experience, with enough capability and refinement to keep owners satisfied.

The expert review adds that Jeep’s free scheduled maintenance for the first three years and 36,000 miles can help reduce early ownership costs. Even so, the model’s age and its mixed safety performance mean you should still pay close attention to condition and service history before buying.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 73.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lot of equipment. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re looking at.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans affordable Laredo and Limited versions, upscale Overland and Summit models, plus the Trailhawk, SRT, and Trackhawk. The base trims are more value-focused, while the higher trims add a more premium look and feel.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 makes 295 horsepower and pairs with an eight-speed automatic. An optional 5.7-liter V8 adds more power and towing strength, but it also brings worse fuel economy.
• Safety package: Jeep offers a ProTech II Package with adaptive cruise control with full stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. These features are not standard across the lineup.
• Infotainment: The Uconnect 4C with Nav system includes navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and Jeep Skill for Amazon Alexa.
• Fuel efficiency: The V8 is described as returning no more than 17 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 7 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit, Trailhawk, SRT, Trackhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point if you want the Grand Cherokee’s style and core capability without paying for luxury extras. It makes sense if you mainly want the nameplate and a lower starting point.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more comfort and equipment while staying closer to the affordable end of the range.
• Overland: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for a richer cabin and more premium presentation.
• Summit: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with the most polished interior treatment and the strongest sense of refinement.
• Trailhawk: Pick this if off-road use matters most, since it is the trim aimed at serious trail capability.
• SRT: This is the performance-focused choice for buyers who want a track-oriented character.
• Trackhawk: This is the most extreme performance model in the lineup.

Jeep also offers the ProTech II safety package on select trims, so check carefully to make sure the features you want are included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,499 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,005, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $22,005 sits slightly below last year's $24,886.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

The model’s broad appeal still matters, though. Stylish design, strong owner satisfaction, and a loyal following can help support demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA with 4WD, but drops to four-star overall with 2WD because of a three-star rollover resistance rating. It also earns Marginal driver protection and Poor front-passenger protection in IIHS small-overlap frontal testing, and its headlights also rate Poor unless you upgrade to the high-intensity discharge setup with automatic high-beam assist.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep’s available ProTech II Package includes adaptive cruise control with full stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. The SUV also includes a backup camera with guidance lines, parking sensors, and ParkSense parking assistance for parallel and perpendicular spaces.

The main caution is that the crash-test results are a real weak point, so you should not assume the available driver-assistance features fully offset the underlying safety ratings.

Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the outgoing two-row Grand Cherokee with stylish design, premium materials, and strong handling.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $19,945, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $22,005 average.
• It’s a versatile, capable, and still appealing older version with a strong personality.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $26,214, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $22,005 average.
• It brings a redesigned package with more technology and sophistication.

The bottom line: Buy the 2021 if you want the outgoing Grand Cherokee’s style and character at a softened price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2020 is the cheaper path; if you want the newer redesign, move up to the 2022.

How does the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee compare to the 2021 Ford Explorer?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee:

• Pros: Stylish design, Premium interior materials, Great handling.
• Cons: Underwhelming base engine, Advanced safety features are not standard.

2021 Ford Explorer:

• Pros: Multiple powertrain options, Great handling, Spacious third row.
• Cons: Interior materials feel cheap, Advanced safety features are not standard.

Our experts score the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee 7.2/10 and the 2021 Ford Explorer 7.5/10. The Explorer edges ahead overall, mainly because it offers more powertrain variety and a third row.
