CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Hyundai Venue
overall

Summary
With 28 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,516, 39.3% of 2021 Hyundai Venue listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Hyundai Venue 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
100.0% of 2021 Hyundai Venue listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Hyundai Venue stands out as a very small crossover that delivers the look and feel of an SUV while keeping the footprint, and nearly the price, of a hatchback. That makes it appealing to shoppers who want a higher-riding, more crossover-like shape without moving into a larger or more expensive vehicle. It is also notable for offering impressive technology and easy-to-use technology, which helps it feel more modern than its bargain-bin price might suggest.
At the same time, the Venue’s strengths come with clear tradeoffs. Its performance is described as sluggish, all-wheel drive is not available, and cargo space is limited. Even so, the 2021 Hyundai Venue can make sense for buyers who value affordability, standard advanced safety features, and a simple, competent runabout over power, traction options, or maximum utility.

We recently purchased the Hyundai venue for my daughter. We are extremely happy with this vehicle and it offers many safety and convenience options. I would highly recommend considering and purchasing the Hyundai Venue if you are in the market for this style vehicle.

Reviewed a 2021 Hyundai Venue on May 13, 2022
A very small SUV. There is little to no leg room in the back seat. Front feels very narrow. Cargo space in the back was sufficient for the size of the car. The blind spots were a major issue I noticed while test driving the car. I also wished it had a center console between the two front seats. Felt like something was missing without these. It had nice features, Bluetooth, apple car play (android equivalent), and back up camera. Overall not a bad car for a smaller person that doesn’t intend on having any adults in the back seat.

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Venue’s appeal leans on its simple, economical design and its focus on value, which usually helps keep ownership straightforward. It also benefits from Hyundai’s 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty, and its 1.6-liter four-cylinder is tuned for basic, efficient transportation rather than complexity.
The performance setup is uncomplicated: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque, front-wheel drive only, and a CVT. That simplicity can be a plus for used buyers, but the sluggish powertrain means you should pay close attention to how the transmission and engine feel in everyday driving.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Venue?
At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model is small and city-friendly, condition matters a lot: check for curb rash, interior wear, and any evidence that the car has been used heavily in stop-and-go driving.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SEL trim is the best value because it adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a sliding armrest and storage box, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a selection of advanced driver-assistance systems that are not on the base trim. The Denim trim is the style-focused choice, with a white roof and unique paint job.
- Powertrain: The Venue uses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. It is front-wheel drive only, and the CVT is the only transmission choice for 2021.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning are standard on all trims. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is added on the SEL and Denim trims.
- Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The interface is designed for simple use, with physical controls and quick response.
- Fuel efficiency: The Venue returns 30 mpg in the city, 33 on the highway, and 31 combined.
Which 2021 Hyundai Venue trim should I buy?
The 2021 Hyundai Venue is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, Denim.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Venue’s core value proposition: small size, standard safety tech, and easy-to-use infotainment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it misses some of the nicer convenience and driver-assistance upgrades found higher up.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim. It adds the features that make the Venue feel more complete, including 17-inch alloy wheels, a sliding armrest and storage box, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and additional driver-assistance systems.
- Denim: This is the style-first choice. It builds on the SEL and adds the distinctive white roof and unique paint treatment, so it suits you best if appearance matters more than value.
The SEL and Denim trims add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Venue?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 416 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.05% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 74.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,344, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Hyundai Venue's resale value?
The current average of $14,242 sits slightly below last year's $14,393.
That mild decline suggests the Venue has softened a bit in the used market, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the price movement is modest rather than dramatic, so the model still appears to hold a fairly stable value band.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Venue safe?
The 2021 Hyundai Venue earns four-star ratings in driver-side front collision, passenger-side front collision, and rollover tests from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning are standard on all trims, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is added on the SEL and Denim trims. That means the base trim gives you a strong safety foundation, but the higher trims add useful extra coverage for lane changes and reversing.
Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Venue or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.05% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- This year stands out for its impressive technology and standard advanced safety features.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $13,780, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $14,242 average.
- It emphasizes affordability, efficiency, and a spacious-feeling interior.
The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more modern-feeling Venue, the 2021 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money above all else, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path.
