CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Hyundai Venue
overall

Summary
With 29 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,949, 24.1% of 2021 Hyundai Venue listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Hyundai Venue 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
100.0% of 2021 Hyundai Venue listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Hyundai Venue stands out as a very small crossover that delivers the look and feel of an SUV while keeping the footprint, and nearly the price, of a hatchback. That makes it appealing to shoppers who want a higher-riding, more crossover-like shape without moving into a larger or more expensive vehicle. It is also notable for offering impressive technology and easy-to-use technology, which helps it feel more modern than its bargain-bin price might suggest.
At the same time, the Venue’s strengths come with clear tradeoffs. Its performance is described as sluggish, all-wheel drive is not available, and cargo space is limited. Even so, the 2021 Hyundai Venue can make sense for buyers who value affordability, standard advanced safety features, and a simple, competent runabout over power, traction options, or maximum utility.

We recently purchased the Hyundai venue for my daughter. We are extremely happy with this vehicle and it offers many safety and convenience options. I would highly recommend considering and purchasing the Hyundai Venue if you are in the market for this style vehicle.

Reviewed a 2021 Hyundai Venue on May 13, 2022
A very small SUV. There is little to no leg room in the back seat. Front feels very narrow. Cargo space in the back was sufficient for the size of the car. The blind spots were a major issue I noticed while test driving the car. I also wished it had a center console between the two front seats. Felt like something was missing without these. It had nice features, Bluetooth, apple car play (android equivalent), and back up camera. Overall not a bad car for a smaller person that doesn’t intend on having any adults in the back seat.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Venue reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Venue’s appeal is rooted in its straightforward, economical design and its emphasis on value. It pairs a small 1.6-liter four-cylinder with a CVT, and the setup is aimed at getting you around efficiently rather than delivering excitement. The model also benefits from Hyundai’s 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty, which adds peace of mind for ownership.
Its performance is described as adequate for low-speed driving but not especially thrilling, and the lack of a more potent powertrain means there isn’t much room to upgrade on that front. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s modest power and limited utility may feel more noticeable as mileage and daily demands increase.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Venue?
At 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially worthwhile here, since you’ll want to check for signs of bodywork, uneven panel gaps, or wear that doesn’t match the mileage. Focus on overall condition and how well the car’s basic equipment and safety systems are working.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SEL trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a sliding armrest and storage box, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a selection of advanced driver-assistance systems that the base trim does not get.
- Powertrain: The Venue uses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT; front-wheel drive is the only drivetrain, and there is no all-wheel-drive option.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning are standard on all trims, while the SEL and Denim add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto; the interface is designed for simple, easy use.
- Fuel efficiency: The Venue returns an EPA estimate of 30 mpg in the city, 33 on the highway, and 31 combined.
Which 2021 Hyundai Venue trim should I buy?
The 2021 Hyundai Venue is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, Denim.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Venue’s core value proposition without the extra styling or convenience upgrades. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and are comfortable with the standard equipment set.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim because it picks up the features that were formerly part of the Convenience Package, including 17-inch alloy wheels, a sliding armrest and storage box, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a selection of advanced driver-assistance systems.
- Denim: This is the style-focused choice, with a white roof and unique paint job that make it the most distinctive-looking Venue. It suits you if appearance matters more than value.
The SEL and Denim trims add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Venue?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 386 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.40% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 74.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,346, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Hyundai Venue's resale value?
The current average of $13,979 sits slightly below last year's $14,622.
That softer pricing suggests the Venue is in a buyer-friendly phase, which can help you if you’re shopping now but may limit upside if you plan to sell soon. Still, the model’s value-oriented reputation and standard tech help keep it relevant in the used market. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you should be able to stay competitive when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Venue safe?
The Venue managed four out of five stars in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s driver-side front collision, passenger-side front collision, and rollover tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning are standard on all trims, and Hyundai’s ADAS are described as easy to live with because they don’t overwhelm you with intrusive alerts. The SEL and Denim trims add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, so those trims give you a more complete safety package.
Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Venue or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.40% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds standard advanced safety features and improved SEL equipment over the prior year.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $13,919, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $13,979 average.
- It offers excellent value, fuel efficiency, and a spacious-feeling interior.
The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped version of the Venue and don’t mind paying a bit more, the 2021 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving a little money and you’re comfortable with the older model’s value-focused setup, the 2020 remains a sensible alternative.
