How much does the 2021 Hyundai Tucson cost?

Prices have softened 7.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,521 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.83/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, great handling, and impressive features for the price. The expert review also highlights its stylish design, comfortable ride, and easy-to-use technology. In use-case terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a well-equipped compact SUV that feels practical and approachable rather than sporty.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, performance is sluggish, and road noise is a drawback. Even so, the Tucson’s value-focused packaging and feature content help it make sense for shoppers who prioritize everyday usability over quick acceleration.

Good and great deals account for 36.0% of listings, so there is still room to find a competitive offer.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson reliable?

Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with buyers especially appreciating how well the Tucson holds up as a practical daily driver. The expert review also reinforces that it is a familiar, proven package rather than a risky experiment, which matters when you are shopping used.

Hyundai’s 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty also supports the ownership case by reducing some long-term worry. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the model’s basic durability and more about finding a well-kept example with the right equipment and maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Tucson?

At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment on the car matches what you expected from the trim. If a seller mentions missing packages or features, verify that before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE starts with 17-inch alloy wheels, manually adjustable front seats, a digital driver information display, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add useful comfort and convenience features, with the Ultimate bringing the most upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 161 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.4-liter four-cylinder makes 181 hp and 175 lb-ft. The stronger engine is the better choice if you want more relaxed everyday performance.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver drowsiness monitoring. Adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree parking monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are reserved for upper trims.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An 8-inch screen is available, and wireless device charging is offered on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter FWD model returns 23 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The AWD version of the 2.0-liter model returns 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The 2.5-liter FWD model returns 22 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined, while the AWD version returns 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, Value, SEL, Sport, Limited, and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value entry point, and it gives you the core Tucson experience with the standard touchscreen, smartphone integration, and basic comfort features. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and can live without the extra convenience items found higher up.
• Value: This trim adds a useful set of everyday upgrades, including heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, roof rails, and satellite radio. It is the best-value choice if you want a noticeable step up in comfort without moving too far up the price ladder.
• SEL: This trim adds dual-zone automatic climate control, a rear-seat USB power outlet, and larger wheels. It is a good fit if you want a more family-friendly cabin and a bit more polish.
• Sport: This trim brings 19-inch wheels, LED head-and-taillights, fog lights, a hands-free power liftgate, wireless device charging, and an Infinity premium audio system. It suits you if you want the most feature-rich middle ground.
• Limited: This trim adds a 360-degree camera system, integrated side-mirror turn signals, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and an eight-way power front-passenger seat. It is the right pick if you want a more upscale feel and more parking confidence.
• Ultimate: This top trim adds an 8-inch touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, rain-sensing wipers, and a panoramic sunroof. Choose it if you want the most comfort and tech.

For safety equipment, features like adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree parking monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are limited to upper-tier trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Tucson?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,521 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.50% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,173, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?

The current average of $17,207 sits slightly below last year's $18,601.

That decline suggests the Tucson has already moved through a meaningful portion of its depreciation curve, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A lower entry cost today can make it easier to preserve value later, especially if you choose a well-equipped trim and keep the vehicle in strong condition.

The market also appears reasonably active, which helps support future demand for clean examples. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Tucson earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Tucson comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver drowsiness monitoring. Upper trims add adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree parking monitor, and blind-spot monitoring.

That means the safety story is strong overall, but you should pay close attention to trim level if you want the fuller driver-assistance suite.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is the final model year of the generation, with plenty of tech and safety features at a competitive price.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $19,927, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,207 average.
• It brings a redesigned, larger body with more cargo and passenger space.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and solid safety. If you care more about interior space and a newer redesign, the 2022 is the better path, but you will pay more for it.
