How much does the 2021 Hyundai Elantra cost?

There are 2,178 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and comfortable seating. They also highlight its strong value and attractive features, which line up with the car’s broader appeal as a compact sedan that feels more upscale than you might expect.

On the downside, the design can be polarizing, and some owners wish for more features such as a moonroof on higher models. The overview also frames it as a good fit if you want style, technology, comfort, and value without moving up to a luxury vehicle.

The market shows 34.9% of listings as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that owners feel good about living with over time, especially because they praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and overall value. That kind of day-to-day satisfaction often matters as much as any single feature when you’re trying to judge dependability.

The expert review also emphasizes the Elantra’s cost-conscious ownership appeal, including a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile limited warranty, five years of roadside assistance, and three free years of scheduled maintenance. Those ownership perks help reduce long-term risk for used buyers, especially if you plan to keep the car for several years.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Elantra?

At 69.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because the Elantra’s appeal depends heavily on value and condition, a clean, well-kept example is worth more than one with hidden damage or neglected maintenance.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited trims differ in styling, cabin quality, and equipment. Base trims use more traditional instrumentation, while higher trims bring a nicer and higher-tech cabin, and the Limited stands out for its more upscale interior presentation.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 147 horsepower and a CVT. The hybrid adds a 1.6-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder, an electric motor, and a six-speed dry DCT, while the N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with 201 horsepower.
• Safety package: Every version includes SmartSense with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, driver attention warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Warning. Higher-level safety upgrades add cyclist detection, junction turning assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.
• Infotainment: SE, SEL, and N Line trims use an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Limited trims upgrade to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and a 10.25-inch digital instrumentation screen, but wireless smartphone integration is lost with that larger display.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is described as returning 35 mpg in combined driving on 17-inch wheels, while the hybrid is rated at 54 mpg combined for the SEL Hybrid and 50 mpg combined for the Limited Hybrid. The N Line is rated at 28 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the simplest path into the redesigned Elantra, and it gives you the core styling, standard SmartSense safety tech, and the 8-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the richer cabin and extra convenience features found higher up.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more equipment without pushing the car into luxury-car pricing. It also unlocks more available tech and comfort upgrades, making it the sweet spot if you want a well-rounded Elantra without stretching to the top trim.
• N Line: Choose this if you want the sportier character, since it adds the turbocharged engine, manual transmission availability, sport suspension tuning, quicker steering, larger brakes, and performance-oriented tires. It suits you best if driving enjoyment matters more than maximum efficiency.
• Limited: This is the trim to buy if you want the most upscale Elantra experience, with the 10.25-inch display setup, navigation, digital instrumentation, ambient lighting, and the most polished cabin presentation. It is the right pick if you want the most features and the most premium feel.

Safety-package upgrades are available on higher trims, including Highway Drive Assist and other advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Elantra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, but the best listings can still move quickly.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,178 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.34% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,366, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $15,524 sits slightly below last year's $16,228.

That decline suggests the Elantra has softened a bit in the used market, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less ideal if you’re planning to sell soon. A lower current average price can make the car easier to move, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to attract attention.

The year-over-year drop of 4.34% shows that values have eased rather than held firm. If you own one, that means resale strength will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2021 Elantra comes with SmartSense, Hyundai’s suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. Standard features include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, driver attention warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Warning.

Higher-level safety upgrades add cyclist detection, junction turning assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. That means the safety story is strong across the lineup, with the most advanced features reserved for better-equipped versions.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned 2021 Elantra proves compact cars can deliver style, sophistication, space, and sportiness without stepping up to luxury.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $13,504, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $15,524 average.
• It adds value-focused improvements, including free scheduled maintenance and new standard safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $16,859, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $15,524 average.
• It adds a roomy cabin, excellent fuel economy, and more standard safety tech.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of style, tech, and value, the 2021 is the best all-around choice. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 is worth considering if you want a newer-feeling package and can pay more.
