CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Honda Passport
overall

Summary
With 77 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $24,325.00, 40.3% of 2021 Honda Passports for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Honda Passport 4.8 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
85.7% of 2021 Passport models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda Passport stands out as a two-row midsize SUV that bridges the gap between outdoor adventure and daily life. Honda says it carries over to 2021 largely unchanged, but with some additional features, and that combination helps define its appeal: it is meant to feel more adventurous than a typical family crossover while still fitting everyday use. The Passport name also carries a rugged heritage from Honda’s early-1990s use of the badge, which reinforces its more active personality.
It is closely related to the Honda Pilot, but the Passport is positioned as the more active alternative. That distinction matters because it gives buyers a midsize SUV with a different character rather than a simple family-hauling focus. In testing, it was praised for great handling, a powerful engine, and comfort, which supports its role as a well-rounded daily driver with some extra capability in its image.
There are tradeoffs, though. The test-drive data calls out an irritating transmission and uncomfortable seats, and owner feedback also points to the lack of ventilated seats as a drawback. Even so, the 2021 Honda Passport remains appealing for shoppers who want a comfortable, capable SUV with a more rugged identity than many of its peers.

I have to be honest, I hadn't thought about a honda at all when I started searching. But this Passport is a nice vehicle. Lots of room, head and Leg. I am 6'1" tall and I have to bring the driver seat up to be comfortable driving safely. The Power from the 6 cycle is great for accelerating on to the highway. I like the style of it. It sounds solid when I close my doors. Will see how it holds up.

Very nice car. Comfortable and many great features. We were upgrading from a 2003, so there were lots of things we got in this vehicle that we didnt have. Love the 1 and 2 driver seat adjustment. The seats are very comfortable. The car has a very tight and smooth handling feel. Seats are comfortable and seems like it will be comfortable on long trips.

With 937 listings available, you have a decent amount of inventory to compare before you commit.
If you find a listing below $23,989.63, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Honda Passport a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Honda Passport earns a 4.8/5 user rating, and its expert rating is 8.00/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its comfort, spaciousness, smooth handling, and strong value, with extra appreciation for cargo space and audio quality. The main recurring drawback in owner feedback is the lack of ventilated seats.
That lines up with the Passport’s role as a two-row midsize SUV that blends everyday usability with a more adventurous personality. The trade-offs are a transmission that can feel irritating and seats that some testers found uncomfortable, so it suits you best if you want a capable, comfortable daily driver and can live with a few refinement compromises.
With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Honda Passport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to comfort, spaciousness, smooth handling, and value, which are all encouraging signs if you want a vehicle that feels easy to live with over time. The same feedback also highlights the Passport’s cargo space and audio quality, suggesting a well-rounded ownership experience.
The expert evaluation also describes it as offering the advantages of the Pilot, including a comfortable ride and reliability, while adding more standard content. Honda’s cost-effectiveness notes reinforce that it is built for daily commuting with occasional adventure in mind.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the specific vehicle has been maintained well enough to avoid compounding wear-related annoyances.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Passport?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 76% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if it looks clean on paper. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the transmission behavior, seat comfort, and overall cabin condition, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day satisfaction. It also makes sense to compare trim equipment carefully, because the Passport’s value changes meaningfully as you move up the range.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The entry-level Sport gives you 20-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, push-button start, tri-zone climate control, a seven-speaker audio system, and a one-touch fold-down rear bench. EX-L adds leather upholstery, a power moonroof, a power rear liftgate, walk-away auto-locking, and power-adjustable front seats. Touring adds front-and-rear parking sensors, a hands-free liftgate, a 115-volt outlet, an upgraded 10-speaker stereo, satellite-linked navigation, and a WiFi hotspot. Elite adds heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and wireless device charging.
- Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque paired with a nine-speed automatic. You get standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive, and the engine delivers strong acceleration.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control that can stop and go with traffic. Available features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors.
- Infotainment: The Passport gets a standard 8-inch touchscreen, plus standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Honda also makes wireless device charging available on the Elite.
- Fuel efficiency: The FWD model returns 20 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. With AWD, it returns 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Honda Passport trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda Passport is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the value play if you want the Passport’s core strengths without stretching your budget. You still get the V6, standard smartphone integration, tri-zone climate control, and a useful set of everyday features.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds leather, a moonroof, a power liftgate, and more convenience features without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
- Touring: Choose this if you want more comfort and convenience tech, including parking sensors, navigation, a WiFi hotspot, and a stronger audio system.
- Elite: This is the trim to buy if you want the most upscale Passport, especially because it adds heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and wireless charging.
Safety equipment is strong across the lineup, with standard driver-assistance features and additional available aids on higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Passport?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 937 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.55% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 76.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,989.63, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda Passport's resale value?
The current average of $24,651 sits slightly below last year's $26,100.
That softer pricing suggests the Passport has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and plan to own it for a while. If you later sell, the current market position may be more favorable than it was a year ago because the model is no longer priced at its prior peak.
Strong demand for well-kept examples should also help support future resale. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda Passport safe?
It earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, and the IIHS gave it top "Good" scores in most crash tests, with an "Acceptable" rating in the passenger-side small overlap front crash test.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control that can stop and go with traffic. Available driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors.
The main caveat is that the IIHS did not give it top marks across every category, so you should pay close attention to the specific crash-test and headlight results when comparing it with rivals.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda Passport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 76% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It carries over largely unchanged but adds some additional features.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $22,722, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $24,651 average.
- It offers a comfortable, versatile two-row SUV with off-road capability.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $29,690, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $24,651 average.
- It adds a light restyle, TrailSport branding, and new safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and market availability, the 2021 is the smart default. If your priority is spending less, the 2020 is the better value path; if you want newer styling and added updates, the 2022 is the upgrade to compare.
