Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda Odyssey stands out as a freshened minivan that brings improved safety, upgraded technology, enhanced utility, and spruced-up styling. It is aimed squarely at family buyers who want a vehicle that reduces daily friction, whether the priority is carrying cargo, loading passengers, or simply making life easier. That combination of practical purpose and updated presentation is a big part of its appeal.
Inside, the Odyssey’s strengths are its spacious cabin and spacious third row, which make it especially well suited to families that need room to spread out. Its stylish design also helps it feel less purely utilitarian than many people expect from a minivan. Owners echo that family-friendly focus, praising its space, safety features, and drivability.
There are tradeoffs, though. The 2021 Honda Odyssey is not available as a hybrid, it is not as luxurious as its competitors, and all-wheel drive is not available. Even so, for buyers who value space, ease of use, and a well-rounded family vehicle, it remains an appealing choice.

Car is great. Handles well and has space. Great family car. Steering wheel could use a motorized function for adjusting height and distance. Power 3rd row seats could be cool as well.

This is my 3rd Honda Odyssey, so the car works well for me. I’d still like to see a modification to fold the seats into the floor (like the Chrysler Pacifica) now that Chrysler/Dodge’s patent on that design has expired. At least the 2nd row seats come completely out - they are just really heavy and awkward to move. I miss the compartment under the center dashboard - it was nice storage. I also miss the blind spot camera that I had in my 2014 that gave you a view for lane changing.

How much does the 2021 Honda Odyssey cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $26,682 |
| Year-Round Low | $26,325 |
| Year-Round High | $28,242 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,242 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.52% |
Prices have softened 5.52% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,264 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.8/5, and our experts give it 7.83/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its space, safety features, and great drivability, and they also like the family-friendly features that make daily use easier. The Odyssey’s roomy cabin and spacious third row fit the use case well if you want a minivan that reduces friction for hauling passengers, cargo, and gear.
The main trade-offs are that it is not as luxurious as its competitors and all-wheel drive is not available. Even so, it remains a strong fit if you want a practical family vehicle with a polished presentation.
With 33.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as dependable for family use, with repeated praise for its safety features, space, and great drivability. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for everyday duties, especially if you want a minivan that stays easy to live with over time.
The drivetrain is described as smooth and effortless, and the vehicle’s family-focused design supports a trouble-free ownership experience when maintained properly. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that condition can vary widely depending on how heavily a family hauler has been used.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Odyssey?
At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, interior wear, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model is often used as a family hauler, condition can vary a lot from one listing to the next, so focus on how well the cabin, seats, and controls have held up.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: LX adds the basics, while EX brings the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, text-messaging support, basic HondaLink connectivity, and the Cabin Control smartphone app. Touring adds navigation, HondaLink subscription services, WiFi capability, CabinWatch, and CabinTalk, while Elite adds an 11-speaker premium sound system, multi-zone listening, and wireless smartphone charging. The best-value trim is the one that gives you the tech you’ll actually use without pushing you into the highest-priced models.
- Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 with a ten-speed automatic powers the front wheels, and the engine uses variable cylinder management to help conserve fuel under certain conditions. The setup is tuned for smooth, effortless power rather than sporty character.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on base LX trim and includes low-speed follow capability for adaptive cruise control, pedestrian braking, road-sign recognition, and a dashboard menu button for quick ADAS access. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning still requires at least EX trim.
- Infotainment: Starting with EX trim, you get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, text-messaging support, basic HondaLink connectivity, and the Cabin Control smartphone app. Touring adds navigation, WiFi capability, CabinWatch, and CabinTalk, while Elite adds wireless smartphone charging.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA says it should return 22 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 21.8 mpg.
Which 2021 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.

- LX: This is the entry point, but it still gets Honda Sensing standard, so you’re not giving up the core safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Odyssey and can live without the upgraded infotainment and convenience features.
- EX: This is the trim that unlocks the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the Cabin Control smartphone app, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
- EX-L: This trim sits above EX and is the natural step if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the tech-heavy upper trims.
- Touring: This is the right pick if you want navigation, WiFi capability, CabinWatch, CabinTalk, and the rear-seat entertainment system.
- Elite: This is the most luxurious version, with perforated leather upholstery, ambient lighting, an 11-speaker premium sound system, multi-zone listening, and wireless smartphone charging.
Honda Sensing is standard on LX, but blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning still requires at least EX trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Odyssey?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,264 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.52% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,325, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda Odyssey's resale value?
The current average of $26,682 sits slightly below last year's $28,242.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay realistic on asking price. If you buy well now and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your eventual resale position.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey safe?
The 2021 Honda Odyssey earns Top Safety Pick recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment aside from rollover resistance, for which it earns a four-star score.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard on base LX trim and includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, pedestrian braking, road-sign recognition, and a dashboard menu button for quick ADAS access. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning still requires at least EX trim.
One caveat is that the driver-assistance systems can feel a bit abrupt in use, especially when adaptive cruise control manages traffic changes or when lane-departure warning intervenes.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It brings improved safety, upgraded technology, and refreshed styling.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $29,690, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $26,682 average.
- It keeps the Odyssey’s enjoyable driving character while making no major changes.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter starting point because pricing has eased and the model already brings the refreshed safety and tech updates. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year with the same basic formula, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative for price-insensitive buyers.
