How much does the 2021 Honda CR-V cost?

Prices have softened 3.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,921 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2021 Honda CR-V a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Honda CR-V earns a 4.79/5 user rating, and its expert rating is 7.83/10. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the outstanding safety features, spacious and comfortable interior, and excellent fuel economy. The CR-V also comes through as reliable and a vehicle many buyers feel good about keeping for the long term.

The trade-offs are familiar: the engine can feel short on power during highway merging, and some owners want better sound insulation and a larger infotainment screen. That fits the CR-V’s role as a practical compact SUV for you if you value everyday usability, comfort, and value more than excitement.

Only 36.6% of listings are marked as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.

Is the 2021 Honda CR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find reliable, highly rated, and easy to count on over time. That kind of language matters because it suggests the CR-V’s appeal goes beyond first impressions and into everyday dependability.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes a straightforward, predictable driving experience, with smooth acceleration and decent handling and ride quality. Honda’s standard safety packaging adds to the sense that this is a low-drama ownership choice.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about a known mechanical weakness and more about finding a well-kept example, since condition and maintenance history will matter more than the model’s basic formula.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda CR-V?

At 73.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, tire wear, and whether the cabin and electronics match the seller’s description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most stripped-down version, with a 5-inch screen and fewer convenience features, while higher trims add a more upscale cabin with wood and chrome accents.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses the same 190-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and CVT, with FWD standard and AWD available as an extra-cost option.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup and includes a multi-angle rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high-beam headlamps. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not standard on the LX.
• Infotainment: The LX gets a 5-inch color screen with Bluetooth, while every other trim has a 7-inch HD touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SMS text messaging functions.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, while AWD models are rated at 27 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.

Which 2021 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda CR-V is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Special Edition, EX, EX-L, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value entry point if you want the CR-V’s core practicality and standard Honda Sensing safety without paying for extras. It is the least equipped, so it makes the most sense if price matters most and you can live with the basic 5-inch screen.
• Special Edition: This trim adds a more complete everyday setup than the LX, including the 7-inch touchscreen and a stronger audio package, so it is a sensible step up if you want better in-cabin usability without going all the way to the upper trims.
• EX: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the features most people will notice day to day, including blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and the more complete infotainment setup. It is the trim that most clearly balances price and equipment.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel, since it builds on the EX with additional speakers and a more premium cabin presentation.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, adding the strongest audio system, navigation, and a wireless phone charger. It makes sense if you want the most convenience and tech in one package.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim, but blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts on the EX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda CR-V?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,921 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,313, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda CR-V's resale value?

The current average of $24,144 sits slightly below last year's $24,950.

That softer pricing suggests the CR-V is in a buyer-friendly phase right now, which can help you if you plan to own it for a while before selling. If you buy well, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation compared with a hotter market.

The model’s broad appeal also helps support future demand, since practical compact SUVs tend to stay on shopping lists longer than niche vehicles. Strong owner satisfaction can also help keep resale interest healthy.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Honda CR-V safe?

The 2021 Honda CR-V earned both a Top Safety Pick award from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes a multi-angle rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high-beam headlamps. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard starting on the EX and above.

The main caveat is that it did not reach the higher Top Safety Pick+ level because of lower headlight scores and the updated side crash test. It also received an Acceptable rating for LATCH ease of use.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out for standard Honda Sensing safety across the lineup.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $22,718, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $24,144 average.
• It offers a polished, easy-to-live-with compact SUV formula with updated engine and safety improvements.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of safety, satisfaction, and current-market availability, the 2021 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the smarter price-sensitive alternative.
