How much does the 2021 GMC Canyon cost?

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon a good car?

Generally — the 2021 GMC Canyon earns a 4.25/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating, which points to a truck that lands in a solid middle ground for shoppers. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, appearance, and features, and they also like the spacious interior and luxury-like touches for the price. The main trade-offs are a ride that can feel stiff and loud on the highway, plus some complaints about the diesel engine’s power in certain situations.

For you, that means the Canyon makes the most sense if you want a midsize pickup that feels more upscale than basic and still works for weekend use or light-duty truck tasks. It also fits buyers who care about capability and features more than absolute refinement. Good and great deals account for 33.9% of listings, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.25/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that many drivers find dependable, value-oriented, and satisfying over time, with praise for its features and everyday livability. The expert drive notes also describe it as a capable, enjoyable pickup that can handle weekend adventure use without losing composure.

If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is ending up with a truck that has been worked hard or maintained inconsistently, so condition and service history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, because accident-free listings are common but not universal. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage truck or one that’s been used for towing, hauling, or off-road driving. Focus on overall condition, especially the cabin, ride quality, and signs of hard use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Elevation Standard keeps costs down with a 7-inch touchscreen, manually adjustable front seats, and basic exterior equipment, while the Denali adds more upscale touches like polished wheels, LED bed lighting, a spray-on bed-liner, heated-and-cooled front seats, and a larger infotainment screen. The AT4 is the off-road-inspired premium trim with all-terrain tires, skid plates, red tow hooks, and off-road suspension.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque, but it has to work hard. The optional 3.6-liter V6 makes 308 hp and 275 lb-ft and is standard on AT4 and Denali. A 2.8-liter Duramax diesel is also available with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft, and it can tow up to 7,700 pounds when properly equipped.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and Teen Driver. The Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert, and it is standard on Denali but optional on other trims.
• Infotainment: The standard 7-inch touchscreen includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An 8-inch screen is optional on Elevation and AT4 and standard on Denali, which also adds navigation, HD radio, a wireless charging pad, and a 4.2-inch color driver display.
• Fuel efficiency: The diesel returns 20 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, 23 combined in rear-wheel-drive form and 19 mpg city, 28 highway, 22 combined with four-wheel drive. The base four-cylinder returns 19 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined with rear-wheel drive and 19 mpg city, 24 highway, 21 combined with four-wheel drive. The V6 returns 18 mpg city, 25 highway, 21 combined with rear-wheel drive and 17 mpg city, 24 highway, 19 combined with four-wheel drive.

Which 2021 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2021 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation Standard: This is the value-focused starting point, and it gives you the essentials without much extra flash. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live with the simpler cabin and standard equipment.
• Elevation: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like LED fog lights, remote start, a power driver’s seat, automatic climate control, and a sliding rear window. It also opens the door to more available options.
• AT4: This is the right pick if you want the off-road-inspired setup, standard V6 power, 4WD, and hardware like skid plates, all-terrain tires, and hill-descent control. It suits buyers who want more capability without stepping all the way up to Denali luxury.
• Denali: This is the most upscale choice, with the richest feature set, the larger standard infotainment screen, premium audio, heated-and-cooled front seats, and the Driver Alert package standard. It’s the trim to buy if comfort and convenience matter more than price.

The Driver Alert package is standard on Denali and optional on the other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,217 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.87% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,734, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $27,783 sits slightly below last year's $30,158.

That price movement suggests the Canyon has softened enough to help used buyers today, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If the market continues to favor shoppers, resale values could stay under pressure unless a truck is especially clean, well-equipped, or lightly used.

For you as a seller, the upside is that the Canyon still has appeal thanks to its features, capability, and broad trim range. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2021 GMC Canyon earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and Teen Driver. The available Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert, and it is standard on Denali but optional on other trims. The Denali also adds an upgraded HD backup camera and Hitch Guidance.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The refreshed look and new AT4 trim give this year a more modern, distinctive feel.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,881, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,783 average.
• It adds a Denali Black Edition package and renames the High Elevation package to Elevation Premium.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2021 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly updated feature mix and a broader premium appearance package, the 2022 is worth a look.
