CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
overall

Summary
With 502 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,812.00, 38.2% of 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-Es for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
82.1% of 2021 Mustang Mach-E models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
Ford’s first mass-market electric car is designed to make an impression, and the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E does that by pairing an electric SUV body with the Mustang name. It stands out as the first electric vehicle to wear that badge and the first production Mustang model with more than two doors. Ford also positioned it as its first electric car built on a dedicated platform and aimed at a mass audience, which gives it a more serious EV identity than the company’s earlier efforts.
That ambition shows up in the way the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is configured. Buyers choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, Standard Range and Extended Range battery packs, and four trim levels: Select, California Route 1, Premium, and GT. The test car described here used the Extended Range battery pack and all-wheel drive, and the First Edition version was said to be identical to the Premium trim aside from cosmetic differences like red brake calipers. Ford’s emphasis on style and sportiness also puts the Mach-E in direct competition with the similarly sized Tesla Model Y, which helps explain why it is aimed at shoppers who want an EV that feels more expressive than purely practical.
The appeal is reinforced by its strengths: stylish design, fun-to-drive character, and impressive electric range. At the same time, the Mach-E is not without drawbacks, and poor ergonomic design is the main criticism noted in the test-drive data. Owner feedback also points to stylish design, impressive performance, and advanced technology as recurring positives, while charging options and some software issues have been concerns for a few drivers.

I bought a Mustang Mach-E premium with all-wheel drive and love it. It’s spectacular to drive; very responsive and of course quiet. The stationary sunroof offsets the medium size cabin and the other amenities make it a pleasure for drivers and The oversized touch screen is wonderful. At less than most Tesla’s the Mach E is a good value.

Absolutely Love This Car! Not our first EV or our first Ford but it’s definitely our favorite of both. Love the aggressive look of the Mach-E compared to other EV’s. Many people I’ve bumped into don’t expect it to be electric. So far it has been incredibly efficient averaging 4-4.9 mi/kWh on the Premium X RWD. The seats are super comfortable and the interior build quality is nice. We are using it as a whole family car and plenty of space for all of us and our 3 kids. Activated the Ford WiFi on day 1 and it handles data of all kids iPads during cruising. My car already has the PAAK update and PAAK works flawlessly. It’s been super hot lately pushing 110-120 degrees and the AC handles the cabin perfectly, the IR reflective coating on the glass roof allows no heat through it keeping the cabin comfortable. Definitely recommend the Mach-E to anyone.

How much does the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,812 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,797.26 |
| Year-Round High | $26,407.82 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $26,405 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.82% |
Prices have softened 9.82% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 508 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $21,797.26, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E a good car?
Yes — the 4.78/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.83/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners repeatedly praise the stylish design, impressive performance, and advanced technology, and they also call out the comfortable interior and user-friendly features. That lines up with the Mach-E’s use case as an EV for you if you want something more expressive than purely practical.
The main trade-off is the poor ergonomic design noted in expert testing, along with owner concerns about charging options and some software issues. Even so, the market still shows 33.3% good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with repeated praise for the car’s comfortable cabin, advanced technology, and enjoyable day-to-day use. The expert test drive data also notes that the basic adaptive cruise control kept pace with traffic reliably, and the automated lane centering was one of the smoothest experienced in a mainstream-brand vehicle.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the core driving experience and more about making sure software behavior, charging performance, and overall condition have been well maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been fast-charged frequently or shows any signs of software or charging irregularities. Focus on cabin ergonomics, screen behavior, and how the vehicle responds during normal charging and driving, since those are the areas most likely to affect your daily experience.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin uses a minimalist layout with a massive touchscreen, a thin digital instrument display, and a subdued interior design, but some buyers may be disappointed by the lack of a leather-upholstery option in this price range. Even the top trims use synthetic ActiveX material, and the First Edition adds cosmetic touches rather than major equipment changes.
- Powertrain: The Mach-E is offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The base RWD Select makes 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, while the lower-level AWD setup in the test car made 346 hp and 428 lb-ft and reached 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The GT Performance Edition is the most potent setup at 480 hp and 634 lb-ft.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is standard on higher trim levels, and Active Drive Assist is standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition trim levels, while it is part of a package on Select.
- Infotainment: The Mach-E uses Sync 4 with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OTA software updates, a 15.5-inch touchscreen, and a 10.2-inch instrument cluster. SiriusXM 360L and a six-speaker audio system are standard, while Premium, GT, and First Edition models get a nine-speaker B&O system.
- Range & charging: The Standard Range battery pack is rated at 230 miles with RWD and 211 miles with AWD. The Extended Range pack is rated at 300 miles with RWD and 270 miles with AWD. DC fast charging is standard at up to 150 kilowatts, and Ford says 10% to 80% charging takes 38 minutes.
- Battery health: Check battery state-of-health carefully, ask how the car has been charged, and look for a healthy mix of home charging and reasonable DC fast-charging use. You should also confirm how much of the battery warranty remains, since that matters more on an early EV than on a conventional used car.
Which 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in 4 trim levels: Select, California Route 1, Premium, and GT.
Here's the short version:
- Select: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Mach-E experience with the base RWD powertrain, standard tech, and the lowest starting price. It makes sense if you want the most affordable way into the model and are willing to add options selectively.
- California Route 1: This trim adds Active Drive Assist as standard, which makes it a strong choice if you want more advanced driver-assistance capability without moving all the way up the range.
- Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it builds on the Mach-E’s style and tech with a more upscale feel, and it is also the trim that the First Edition closely mirrors aside from cosmetic differences.
- GT: This is the performance-focused choice, with the strongest output and the most aggressive character. It suits you if acceleration matters more than value or efficiency.
For safety-package shoppers, note that Active Drive Assist is standard on California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition, but only available as part of a package on Select.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 508 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.82% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 81.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,797.26, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E's resale value?
The current average of $23,812 sits slightly below last year's $26,405.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what a future seller can expect in the near term. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. The model’s strong owner satisfaction and distinctive EV identity should still help support demand over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assistance equipment includes automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is standard on higher trim levels, and Active Drive Assist is standard on California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition, while Select gets it only as part of a package.
Because crash-test ratings were not available yet for this model year, you should lean more heavily on the standard safety equipment and the trim-specific availability of Active Drive Assist when comparing used examples.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.82% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 model is the first year of Ford’s mass-market Mustang-badged EV, so you’re getting the original version of the formula with strong style, range, and performance.
The bottom line: If you want the earliest Mach-E with the strongest combination of style, range, and owner satisfaction, the 2021 is a solid pick. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for the best-condition example and prioritize accident-free listings with a clean history and well-documented charging behavior.
