Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
Ford’s first mass-market electric vehicle is designed to make an impression, and the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E does that by pairing an electric SUV body with the Mustang name. It is the first electric vehicle to wear that badge, and it is also the first production Mustang model with more than two doors. That combination gives it a distinctive place in Ford’s lineup: it is meant to feel more emotional and sporty than a typical EV, while still being aimed at a broad audience.
The Mach-E’s appeal starts with its style and continues with its driving character. Ford positions it as a performance-minded small electric crossover, and the test-drive data highlights its stylish design, fun-to-drive nature, and impressive electric range. Buyers also get meaningful choice, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, Standard Range or Extended Range battery packs, and four trim levels to sort through. The test car described here used the Extended Range battery pack and all-wheel drive, which fits the model’s emphasis on capability and range.
There are tradeoffs, though. The test-drive data calls out poor ergonomic design, so the cabin does not sound as polished in day-to-day use as the exterior and performance story suggest. Even so, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E stands out as a bold and ambitious electric crossover that tries to blend Mustang identity, EV practicality, and genuine driver appeal.

I bought a Mustang Mach-E premium with all-wheel drive and love it. It’s spectacular to drive; very responsive and of course quiet. The stationary sunroof offsets the medium size cabin and the other amenities make it a pleasure for drivers and The oversized touch screen is wonderful. At less than most Tesla’s the Mach E is a good value.

Absolutely Love This Car! Not our first EV or our first Ford but it’s definitely our favorite of both. Love the aggressive look of the Mach-E compared to other EV’s. Many people I’ve bumped into don’t expect it to be electric. So far it has been incredibly efficient averaging 4-4.9 mi/kWh on the Premium X RWD. The seats are super comfortable and the interior build quality is nice. We are using it as a whole family car and plenty of space for all of us and our 3 kids. Activated the Ford WiFi on day 1 and it handles data of all kids iPads during cruising. My car already has the PAAK update and PAAK works flawlessly. It’s been super hot lately pushing 110-120 degrees and the AC handles the cabin perfectly, the IR reflective coating on the glass roof allows no heat through it keeping the cabin comfortable. Definitely recommend the Mach-E to anyone.

How much does the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,125 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,797 |
| Year-Round High | $25,431 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $25,426 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.05% |
Prices have softened 9.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 501 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its stylish design, impressive performance, and advanced technology, and many also like the comfortable interior and user-friendly features. The main trade-offs are the cabin’s poor ergonomic design and some charging- and software-related concerns raised by a few owners.
Ford positions it as a mass-market electric crossover with Mustang branding, so it fits you best if you want an EV that feels more expressive and sporty than a basic commuter. With 35.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also a reasonable amount of market flexibility if you’re shopping carefully.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its comfortable cabin, enjoyable driving character, and advanced tech. The expert drive notes also describe the adaptive cruise control as reliable and the automated lane centering as one of the smoothest in a mainstream vehicle.
Ford also includes a cable that lets you plug into a 240-volt home outlet for Level 2 AC charging, which can make routine ownership easier if your garage setup is compatible. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery, charging hardware, and software behavior have been well cared for over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, and pay close attention to cosmetic condition, charging behavior, and how the cabin electronics operate. Because this is an EV, you should also make battery health a top priority and confirm that the car charges normally at home and on DC fast chargers.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin design is minimalist, and even the top trims use synthetic upholstery rather than leather, so you should compare material quality and comfort carefully across trims. The Select trim also misses some equipment that appears on higher trims, including the 360-degree camera system and heated front-seat and steering-wheel content tied to the available driver-assist package.
- Powertrain: The Mach-E is offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the base RWD Select makes 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. The AWD setup in the test car delivered 346 hp and 428 lb-ft, while the GT Performance Edition reaches 480 hp and 634 lb-ft.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, reverse sensing, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is standard on higher trim levels, and Active Drive Assist is standard on California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition, but only part of a package on Select.
- Infotainment: The Mach-E uses Sync 4 with a 15.5-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air update capability. Premium, GT, and First Edition models add a nine-speaker B&O sound system.
- Range & charging: The Standard Range battery pack is rated at 230 miles with RWD and 211 miles with AWD, while the Extended Range pack is rated at 300 miles with RWD and 270 miles with AWD. DC fast charging is standard at up to 150 kilowatts, and Ford says 10% to 80% charging can take 38 minutes.
- Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm that charging speeds are still normal, and ask how the car has typically been charged. Home charging is usually gentler for daily use, while frequent DC fast charging can be worth reviewing more closely. You should also confirm how much of the battery warranty remains.
Which 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in 4 trim levels: Select, California Route 1, Premium, and GT.
Here's the short version:
- Select: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Mach-E experience at the lowest starting price. It makes sense if you want the styling, standard driver-assist tech, and EV range without paying for extra luxury or performance content.
- California Route 1: This trim is aimed at range-focused shoppers who want more distance between charges and a more complete equipment set than Select. It also gets Active Drive Assist standard, which makes it a strong choice if you want more advanced highway-driving capability.
- Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it builds on the core Mach-E formula with more comfort and convenience content, plus the B&O audio system. It also shares the stronger powertrain setup described in the test car, so it suits you if you want a more polished daily driver.
- GT: This is the performance choice, with the most powerful powertrain and the quickest acceleration. Buy this one if you want the most aggressive Mach-E experience and are willing to pay for it.
Safety-package note: Active Drive Assist is standard on California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition, but it is only part of a package on Select.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 501 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.05% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,797, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E's resale value?
The current average of $23,125 sits slightly below last year's $25,426.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to help you buy more selectively today, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it’s time to resell. The Mach-E’s broad appeal as a stylish EV crossover should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assistance features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, reverse sensing, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is standard on higher trim levels, and Active Drive Assist is standard on California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition, but only available as part of a package on Select.
Because it just launched, crash-test ratings from NHTSA and IIHS aren’t available yet for this model year.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.05% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 model is the first production Mustang with more than two doors and the first Ford EV on a dedicated platform, which makes it the foundational version of the Mach-E story.
The bottom line: If you want the earliest Mach-E with the core styling, range, and performance formula at a softer price, the 2021 is a sensible buy. If you’re mainly focused on newer tech and a more developed ownership experience, a later model year may be worth considering, but price-sensitive buyers can still find strong value in the 2021.
