CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
overall

Summary
With 49 currently listed for sale near Dallas, TX and an average price of $25,118, 14.3% of 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-Es for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
85.7% of 2021 Mustang Mach-E models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
Ford’s first mass-market electric car is also the first electric vehicle to wear the Mustang name, and the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E uses that badge to signal a more emotional, performance-minded approach to EVs. It is also the first production Mustang model with more than two doors, which makes it stand out immediately from the rest of the nameplate. Ford says the Mach-E is aimed at a mass audience, and its small electric crossover shape helps broaden its appeal beyond traditional sports-car buyers.
The Mach-E’s appeal comes from its mix of style and substance. Ford offers rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, Standard Range or Extended Range battery packs, and four trim levels: Select, California Route 1, Premium, and GT. The test car described here was a First Edition model, which was identical to the Premium trim aside from cosmetic differences like red brake calipers, and it had the Extended Range battery pack and all-wheel drive. The car’s strengths include stylish design, fun-to-drive character, and impressive electric range.
There are tradeoffs, though. Ford’s emphasis on performance puts the Mach-E in direct competition with the similarly sized Tesla Model Y, and the cabin’s poor ergonomic design is a notable drawback. Even so, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E remains distinctive because it combines Mustang branding, electric power, and crossover practicality in a way Ford clearly intended to feel both sporty and modern.

I bought a Mustang Mach-E premium with all-wheel drive and love it. It’s spectacular to drive; very responsive and of course quiet. The stationary sunroof offsets the medium size cabin and the other amenities make it a pleasure for drivers and The oversized touch screen is wonderful. At less than most Tesla’s the Mach E is a good value.

Absolutely Love This Car! Not our first EV or our first Ford but it’s definitely our favorite of both. Love the aggressive look of the Mach-E compared to other EV’s. Many people I’ve bumped into don’t expect it to be electric. So far it has been incredibly efficient averaging 4-4.9 mi/kWh on the Premium X RWD. The seats are super comfortable and the interior build quality is nice. We are using it as a whole family car and plenty of space for all of us and our 3 kids. Activated the Ford WiFi on day 1 and it handles data of all kids iPads during cruising. My car already has the PAAK update and PAAK works flawlessly. It’s been super hot lately pushing 110-120 degrees and the AC handles the cabin perfectly, the IR reflective coating on the glass roof allows no heat through it keeping the cabin comfortable. Definitely recommend the Mach-E to anyone.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its stylish design, impressive performance, and advanced technology, and they also call out the comfortable interior and user-friendly features. The trade-offs are a poor ergonomic design in the cabin and some concerns around charging options and software issues.
That mix fits you best if you want an EV that feels more expressive and sporty than a basic commuter, especially since Ford aimed it at a mass audience with crossover practicality. With 38.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels reliable, comfortable, and generally trouble-free for many drivers, with praise for the way it delivers a satisfying daily-driving experience over the long term. The expert drive notes also say the basic adaptive cruise control kept pace with traffic reliably, and the automated lane centering was one of the smoothest in a mainstream vehicle.
Ford also includes a cable that lets you charge from a 240-volt home outlet, which can make regular ownership easier if you have the right setup. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the charging and software systems have been working properly and that the battery-related hardware has been cared for.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a full inspection. Focus on body condition, wheel and tire wear, charging-port condition, and whether the software and driver-assist features behave as expected on a test drive. If possible, confirm how the car was charged and whether it has been used mostly at home or on DC fast charging.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin uses a minimalist design, and even the top trims rely on synthetic ActiveX material rather than leather. First Edition models add red brake calipers, brushed aluminum pedals, and unique kickplates, but those are mainly cosmetic differences.
- Powertrain: The Mach-E is offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The base RWD Select makes 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, while the lower-level AWD setup in the test car made 346 hp and 428 lb-ft.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is standard on higher trim levels.
- Infotainment: The Mach-E uses Sync 4 with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and over-the-air software updates. The main touchscreen measures 15.5 inches, and the instrument cluster measures 10.2 inches.
- Range & charging: The 68-kilowatt-hour Standard Range battery pack gets an EPA-estimated 230 miles of range with RWD and 211 miles with AWD. The 88-kWh Extended Range pack allows for 300 miles of range with RWD and 270 miles with AWD. DC fast charging is standard, with a maximum charging rate of 150 kilowatts, and Ford says 10% to 80% can take 38 minutes.
- Battery health: On a used EV, you should ask for battery state-of-health information if it’s available, review charging habits, and pay attention to whether the car has spent most of its life on home charging or frequent DC fast charging. You should also confirm how much of the battery warranty remains.
Which 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in 4 trim levels: Select, California Route 1, Premium, and GT.
Here's the short version:
- Select: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Mach-E experience at the lowest starting price. It makes the most sense if you want the styling, standard driver-assist tech, and EV basics without paying for extra luxury or performance equipment.
- California Route 1: This trim is a better fit if you want a more range-focused setup and the added convenience of Active Drive Assist as standard. It sits above Select and is a strong choice if you want more capability without jumping all the way to the performance-oriented top end.
- Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel and includes the nine-speaker B&O sound system. It also gets Active Drive Assist standard, making it a well-rounded middle ground.
- GT: Choose this if you want the strongest performance and the most aggressive character in the lineup. It is the trim for you if acceleration matters most and you want the Mach-E at its most powerful.
Active Drive Assist is standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition models, and it is part of a package on the Select trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 519 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.91% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,798, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E's resale value?
The current average of $23,609 sits slightly below last year's $25,918.
That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher. The year’s strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assist features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is also standard on higher trim levels.
Active Drive Assist is slated for the Mach-E as well, and Ford says it will build on adaptive cruise control with automated acceleration, braking, and steering on designated stretches of divided highway. It is standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition trims, and it is part of a package on the Select trim.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
- 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.91% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 model stands out as the first production Mustang with more than two doors and as Ford’s first mass-market EV, which gives it a distinctive place in the lineup.
The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive early Mach-E experience and you value the current price softness, the 2021 is a sensible buy. If you’re more focused on newer-model-year updates and can spend more, a later Mach-E may be worth considering; if you’re price-sensitive, the 2021’s lower average price and strong owner satisfaction make it the better-value path.
