Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport 4.15 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
Ford lets the new 2021 Ford Bronco Sport out to romp, and that lively personality comes through in its overall character. It is described as a spunky compact two-row crossover SUV that proved to be a capable and attractive companion for both on- and off-pavement adventures. That combination of style, versatility, and a playful feel is a big part of what makes it distinctive.
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport also stands out for its handling and technology, both of which are listed among its strengths. Those positives help give it broad appeal for buyers who want something that feels engaging without giving up everyday usefulness. The main drawback noted is that the interior materials feel cheap, and owner feedback echoes that concern, with some also pointing to a small back seat and an annoying Auto-Stop feature.

This is the car I ended up getting and it was amazing!! I love the cute features of the bronco tied with its functionality. I do a lot of highway driving but also love to go on adventures and do a bit of off-roading this is the perfect vehicle for both.

This is the first vehicle I have ever purchased without having the opportunity to see it in advance, due to the shortage of vehicles overall. I enjoy the performance and handling thus far. Great turning radius. I very much enjoy the medium size of the vehicle as an SUV. It is not compact yet it is not bulky. There is ample room in the back for most needs, especially with the rear seats folded down. The leg room in the back seat is limited, but adequate. I am glad to have purchased the upgraded Outer Banks Model. The added features were worth the cost of the upgrade.

Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport a good car?
Generally — the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport earns a 4.15/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners repeatedly praise its style, good fuel economy, and off-road capability, and the expert review also highlights its lively, capable personality and strong handling. The main trade-offs are cabin quality and rear-seat space, with the interior materials called out as cheap and the back seat described as small.
If you want a compact SUV that feels more adventurous than a typical commuter crossover, this one fits that brief well. The market also shows 33.5% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile listings to chase.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.15/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find dependable for everyday use, with recurring praise for its good fuel economy and off-road capability. That same feedback also suggests you can count on it as a practical adventure-oriented SUV, especially if you value a model with a strong personality over a plain commuter appliance.
The expert review reinforces that it has good manners on pavement and a capable setup for trail use, which supports confidence in day-to-day ownership. If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is more about cabin wear and comfort compromises than core mechanical appeal.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the vehicle has seen trail use or heavy family duty. Focus on cabin condition, because the interior quality is a known weak point and the small back seat is a common complaint. It’s also worth checking that the features you want are actually present, since equipment changes meaningfully by trim.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base model starts with 17-inch Sparkle Silver wheels, while Big Bend adds 17-inch Carbonized Gray-painted high-gloss aluminum wheels. Outer Banks moves up to 18-inch machined-face aluminum Ebony Black-painted wheels with all-season tires, and Badlands and First Edition get the more aggressive all-terrain setup. The cabin also steps up from cloth seats to leather-trimmed, heated sport-contour bucket seats and then to Navy Pier Leather power front seats on the First Edition, so base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to the feature gaps.
- Powertrain: The 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder makes 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque in Base, Big Bend, and Outer Banks trims. Badlands and First Edition use a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder with 245 hp and 275 lb-ft, and those versions also bring the more capable off-road hardware.
- Safety package: Every trim gets Ford Co-Pilot360, which includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
- Infotainment: You get an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Ford+Alexa, SiriusXM capability, and a standard 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Base and Big Bend miss the 6.5-inch digital instrument panel that comes on Outer Banks and above.
- Fuel efficiency: The owner feedback highlights good fuel economy, and the expert review notes that the 1.5-liter engine can sound strained when pressed hard, while the 2.0-liter setup better suits the vehicle’s character.
Which 2021 Ford Bronco Sport trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Big Bend, Outer Banks, Badlands, and First Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the entry point, but it leaves out some convenience and tech features that show up higher in the lineup, including push-button start and the 6.5-inch digital instrument panel. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and are comfortable with a simpler setup.
- Big Bend: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more polished wheel treatment and keeps the price below the more comfort-focused upper trims. It’s a smart middle ground if you want a Bronco Sport without stretching too far.
- Outer Banks: This trim is the better pick if you care more about comfort and everyday refinement, since it adds more upscale interior touches, heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel equipment, and the digital instrument panel. It also opens the door to more available tech and audio upgrades.
- Badlands: Choose this one if you want the stronger 2.0-liter engine and the more serious off-road hardware. It’s the trim that best matches the Bronco Sport’s adventurous personality.
- First Edition: This is the most fully equipped version, with the 2.0-liter engine and nearly everything bundled in. It’s the right choice if you want the top-spec Bronco Sport and don’t mind paying for it.
Every trim comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360, and Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,202 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.31% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,217, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport's resale value?
The current average of $20,217 sits slightly below last year's $22,542.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean future resale gains are limited unless demand strengthens. For a seller, the softer trend means you should expect pricing pressure unless your vehicle is especially clean, well equipped, or priced competitively.
The Bronco Sport’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, especially among shoppers who want a compact SUV with more personality than the average crossover. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.15/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport safe?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport has not yet been rated by IIHS or NHTSA for crash-worthiness.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Every trim comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360, which includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centering, evasive steering assist, navigation, SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, and road-sign recognition, though road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
The main caveat is that there are no published crash-test results yet, so you’re relying on the standard safety equipment rather than independent ratings. That makes a careful test drive and feature check especially important if safety tech is a priority for you.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Bronco Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.15/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 model introduced the Bronco Sport’s adventurous personality, strong tech, and capable all-wheel-drive setup in a way that still stands out.
The bottom line: If you want the Bronco Sport’s original formula and you find a clean, well-priced example, the 2021 is a compelling buy. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years for a better deal, but the 2021 still makes sense when you want the model’s character, capability, and tech without overpaying.
