Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Bronco stands out as a purpose-built off-roader that returns to showrooms with a clear focus on capability. It offers two available powertrains, a choice of manual or automatic transmissions, standard four-wheel drive, clever engineering, and bold styling. That combination gives it a distinctive identity for buyers who want a vehicle that is designed to tackle rough terrain first and still bring some everyday usability along with it.
Its strengths are easy to see in the driving experience and overall design. The Bronco is praised for excellent off-road capability, stylish design, and great ride quality, while owners also appreciate its design, smooth ride, versatility, powerful performance, and advanced tech features. At the same time, it is not without compromises: the fuel economy is poor, it can be noisy, and the stereo is lacking. Some owners also mention wind noise and roof-fit issues with the soft tops, which reinforces that this is a rugged, adventure-focused vehicle rather than a quiet comfort-first SUV.

Love it! Came with the lux package and the heated steering wheel is coming in handy this time of the year. The only thing thats disappointing is the charging pad sucks and I wish it had the auxillary switches for future mods.

There are 2,074 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco a good car?
Generally — the 2021 Ford Bronco earns a 4.47/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.
Drivers consistently praise its design, smooth ride, and versatility, and they also highlight its powerful performance and advanced tech features. The Bronco’s use-case is clear: it is built for buyers who want a purpose-built off-roader with everyday usability layered on top. Trade-offs include poor fuel economy and a noisy cabin, and some owners mention stereo shortcomings and soft-top wind noise. Good and great deals account for 32.5% of listings, which suggests there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco reliable?
Owners rate it 4.47/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable, trouble-free, and worth counting on for the long haul, especially for buyers who value its rugged character and versatility. The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of durability by describing the Bronco as a competent, complex SUV with smart engineering and strong capability. Ford also notes that the Bronco’s safety and convenience features are packaged by trim, so long-term ownership risk is more about choosing the right configuration than about the platform itself.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Bronco?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the roof, doors, and cabin for signs of wear, especially if you are considering a soft-top example. Focus on condition details that matter for an adventure-focused SUV, including noise, fit, and evidence of hard use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base models get only a base level of safety equipment, while higher trims can add more features through packages. The Bronco’s trim ladder also changes wheel, tire, and interior equipment, so you should compare the standard setup carefully against the options you want.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four with 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, or an optional twin-turbo 2.7-liter inline-four with 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The 2.3-liter pairs with a seven-speed manual, while the 2.7-liter uses a 10-speed automatic.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot 360 includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping system, auto high-beam headlamps, and rear-view camera with backup assist grid lines. The Base vehicle gets only a base level of safety features, while the Mid Package and High Package add more equipment on selected trims.
- Infotainment: The Bronco uses SYNC 4 with enhanced voice recognition and an 8-inch standard touchscreen, with a 12-inch screen available. Wireless device charging and voice-activated navigation come with the Lux Package.
- Fuel efficiency: The Bronco is described as having poor fuel economy.
Which 2021 Ford Bronco trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Bronco is offered in 7 trim levels: Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, First Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the entry point, but it is also the most stripped-down version. It makes sense if you want the Bronco’s core off-road identity at the lowest starting price and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
- Big Bend: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it sits early in the lineup and can add the Mid Package. That package brings useful everyday upgrades like Ford Co-Pilot 360, a rear-view camera with backup assist grid lines, and auto high-beam headlamps.
- Black Diamond: This trim is aimed at buyers who want more rugged capability and can also add the Mid Package. It is a stronger choice than Base if you want a more adventure-ready setup without jumping to the pricier upper trims.
- Outer Banks: This trim leans more toward comfort and can add the High Package, which brings a 360-degree camera, a forward-sensing system, and side-view mirror LED approach lamps. It suits you if you want a more polished Bronco with added convenience.
- Badlands: This is the trim to consider if you want a more serious off-road setup and can also add the High Package. It is the right fit if capability matters more than keeping the price down.
- Wildtrak: This trim is positioned higher in the range and can add the High Package. It makes sense if you want a more fully equipped Bronco and are willing to pay for it.
- First Edition: This is the top-end launch trim and the most expensive choice. It is for buyers who want the most exclusive Bronco configuration and are comfortable paying for it.
The Mid Package is the key safety-package upgrade on Big Bend and Black Diamond, while the High Package is available on Outer Banks, Wildtrak, and Badlands.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Bronco?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,074 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.30% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 89.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,921, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Bronco's resale value?
The current average of $36,921 sits slightly below last year's $40,705.
That softer pricing suggests the Bronco has already moved through some of its early-market premium, which can help future buyers but may temper near-term seller upside. If demand stays healthy, a well-kept example should remain attractive because shoppers still value its off-road identity and strong enthusiast appeal. Condition will matter a lot, especially for higher-mileage or heavily used examples that may have seen trail duty.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.47/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco safe?
The 2021 Ford Bronco has not yet received crash-test ratings from NHTSA or IIHS.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot 360 includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping system, auto high-beam headlamps, and rear-view camera with backup assist grid lines. Higher trims can add a 360-degree camera, a forward-sensing system, and side-view mirror LED approach lamps. The Base vehicle gets only a base level of safety features, so you should pay close attention to package content if safety tech matters to you.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Bronco or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.30% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.47/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 launch brings the Bronco’s return with standard 4WD, two available powertrains, and a clear off-road-first identity.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,821, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $36,921 average.
- It broadens appeal with a deeper model roster and stronger everyday drivability.
The bottom line: If you want the Bronco’s first-year appeal and a lower average price, the 2021 is the better starting point. If you are willing to spend a bit more for a broader lineup and a slightly more refined ownership proposition, the 2022 is the safer alternative. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2021 remains the value play.
