CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Dodge Challenger
overall

Summary
With 210 currently listed for sale near Hartford, CT and an average price of $43,281, 26.2% of 2021 Dodge Challengers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Dodge Challenger 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7 / 10.
95.7% of 2021 Challenger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Dodge Challenger stands out because it is unapologetically focused on straight-line speed and style rather than all-around versatility. It is described as a single-minded sled of straight-line speed, and that character is part of what makes it feel like a legend. The car also offers incredible performance value, multiple powertrain options, and plenty of cargo space, which gives it a broader appeal than its old-school personality might suggest.
That same personality comes with tradeoffs. The Challenger’s handling is outclassed by the competition, its back seat is cramped, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, the 2021 Dodge Challenger remains distinctive because it combines serious performance with a high-tech dragster feel and a design that has aged into something memorable rather than ordinary.

This is an amazing car! It is fast, and feels extremely solid. The car is very comfortable to drive, and the placement of gauges and instruments is quite sensible. Apple CarPlay support is excellent, and integrates well with the vehicle. The vehicle also offers UConnect and Android. The entertainment system is high quality. The only negative is that there is no facility for automatic raising of the front windows.

What an amazing car! I bought a 2021 GT less than a week ago and I love it. I cant believe how many features the car has. Just to name a few: Driver seat memory, heated seats, heated steering wheel, launch control, adaptive cruise control, the Harmon\Kardon sound system, it has everything you could ever want and more. Highly recommend to anyone thinking about a Challenger!

How much does the 2021 Dodge Challenger cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $31,514 |
| Year-Round Low | $30,196 |
| Year-Round High | $33,208 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $33,160 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.97% |
Prices have softened 4.97% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,401 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Dodge Challenger earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.0/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise its power, comfort, and unique styling, and they also highlight the impressive technology and driving experience. The Challenger’s straight-line speed and broad powertrain range are major draws, and its cargo space adds everyday usefulness.
The trade-offs are clear: handling is outclassed by rivals, the back seat is cramped, and advanced safety features are not standard. That makes it best for you if you want a distinctive coupe with serious performance character rather than all-around versatility.
Only 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.
Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with praise for the car’s power and comfort over time. The expert review also emphasizes that the Challenger backs up its strong performance with a full warranty and a powertrain lineup built for durability-minded buyers.
If you plan to keep one long term, the main risk is less about basic satisfaction and more about how hard the car may have been driven before you buy it.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Dodge Challenger?
At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car has been modified or driven hard, since this model’s performance appeal can attract aggressive use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SXT is described as decent but plain, while higher trims add more visual drama and a more upscale cabin. The SXT can be optioned with dark 20-inch wheels and tan Nappa leather, while GT and R/T models add a central air scoop and a wide front air dam. The R/T Scat Pack Widebody adds huge fender flares and a revised lower fascia, and Hellcat models bring twin hood scoops and an open intake opening.
- Powertrain: The base SXT and GT use a 3.6-liter V6 that is quiet and efficient but not especially fun. The R/T brings a 375-hp 5.7-liter V8 with a six-speed manual, active exhaust, and upgraded suspension. The R/T Scat Pack steps up to a 6.4-liter V8 with 485 hp, and Hellcat models use a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with outputs ranging from 717 hp to 807 hp.
- Safety package: The Challenger offers blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control, and optional forward emergency braking is rated only at the lowest basic level. No driver assists are standard, so you should not assume a fully equipped safety suite on any trim.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An 8.4-inch screen should be standard, and the system also includes Performance Pages for real-time power, torque, G-force, and performance recording.
- Fuel efficiency: The performance review notes fuel economy can reach 30 mpg or 20 mpg depending on configuration, while Hellcat models can drop below 10 mpg. The base V6 is described as quiet and efficient, but no exact figure is stated there.
Which 2021 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?
The 2021 Dodge Challenger is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, and SRT Hellcat.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Challenger look at the lowest price. It is best if you want the style and everyday usability first, but it is also the least exciting choice dynamically.
- GT: Choose this if you want the V6 formula with available AWD and a little more flexibility for poor weather. It still leans toward comfort and cruising rather than excitement.
- R/T: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it is the most affordable V8 model and adds the 375-hp 5.7-liter V8, a six-speed manual, active exhaust, and upgraded suspension.
- R/T Scat Pack: Step here if you want a major jump in performance, with the 6.4-liter V8, 485 hp, larger Brembo brakes, adaptive Bilstein dampers, and six-piston front brakes.
- SRT Hellcat: This is the choice for maximum straight-line drama, with 717 hp and the strongest value in the high-performance range according to the review. It is the one to buy if you want the most extreme Challenger experience.
Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are the only other driver assists available, and forward emergency braking remains optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Dodge Challenger?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,401 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.97% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $30,196, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $31,514 sits slightly below last year's $33,160.
That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and avoid overpaying, because a lower entry price gives you more room to absorb depreciation later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger safe?
The 2021 Dodge Challenger earns a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but the government's tests mask the weaknesses of this old body structure.
It earns four-star ratings for the driver and five-star ratings for the passenger in a frontal crash, five-star ratings for side impact, and four-star ratings for rollover testing. It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
The Challenger’s safety equipment is limited for the class. Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise are the only other driver assists available, and optional forward emergency braking was rated only basic. The IIHS results also show a weak point in the structure, including a marginal small-overlap result and poor body-structure performance.
Should I buy a 2021 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.97% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 stands out for its single-minded straight-line speed, broad powertrain range, and high-tech dragster feel.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $29,053, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $31,514 average.
- It blends retro styling with modern technology and heart-pounding performance.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of performance character, current-market pricing, and broad trim choice, the 2021 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in clean condition.
