How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD cost?

There are 1,137 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

It stands out as a heavy-duty work truck that can still handle daily duty, with serious towing and hauling capability paired with practical livability. The expert review also points to multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and plenty of cargo space as major strengths.

The trade-offs are a potentially polarizing design and poor visibility over the front hood. Even so, if you want a truck that can work hard without feeling completely uncompromising in everyday use, this model year fits that brief well.

There are 30.3% good or great deals in the market, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Silverado 3500HD is built around serious capability, and the expert review emphasizes that it can deliver on day-to-day needs while still being one of the most capable vehicles on the road. Its powertrains are described as making terrific power, and the diesel setup is noted for keeping the truck in the ideal gear for optimal performance.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds some reassurance for used buyers. For long-term ownership, the main risk is that heavy-duty trucks can be expensive to keep in top shape if they’ve been worked hard, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should start with a history report and then focus on how the truck was used, especially if it was a tow rig or work truck. A careful inspection should pay close attention to wear on the cabin, bed, hitch area, and any signs of heavy-duty use.

Because this truck is large and can be optioned in many ways, you should also confirm the equipment on the specific listing matches what you want. Pay extra attention to visibility-related concerns and make sure the truck’s condition supports the asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The W/T trim is the most basic, with vinyl seat trim, two USB ports, two-tier trailering mirrors, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The LT adds cloth seating, body-color door handles, an integrated trailer brake controller, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen, while the LTZ adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and more upscale exterior details. High Country is the luxury trim with heated and ventilated front seats, a Bose premium sound system, and a spray-in bed-liner.
• Powertrain: You get a standard 6.6-liter V8 with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, or an optional Duramax turbodiesel 6.6-liter V8 with 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. Both can be paired with rear-wheel drive or available four-wheel drive with low range, and the diesel uses an Allison 10-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The truck comes standard with a backup camera and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. Forward collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree parking camera system are available, but you’ll need to pay extra for them.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen, upgraded trims get an 8-inch touchscreen, and the High Country adds navigation. The system is designed to be easy to use, with hard buttons and dials, and it also offers trailering camera views and a trailering app.
• Fuel efficiency: Drivers can expect fuel economy between 12 and 15 mpg.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is offered in 4 trim levels: W/T (or Work Truck), LT, LTZ, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• W/T: This is the most affordable way into the Silverado 3500HD, and it gives you the core work-truck basics, including the standard 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, vinyl seat trim, and trailering mirrors. It makes sense if you want maximum utility and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds cloth seating, an 8-inch touchscreen, an integrated trailer brake controller, a WiFi hotspot, and the EZ lift-and-lower tailgate. If you want a better balance of everyday comfort and work-ready features, this is the trim to focus on.
• LTZ: This trim steps up to leather upholstery, heated front seats, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and more upscale exterior touches. It suits you if you want a more comfortable truck without jumping all the way to the luxury end.
• High Country: This is the range-topping luxury trim, with heated and ventilated front seats, chrome side steps, a Bose premium sound system, spray-in bed-liner, and navigation. Choose it if you want the most upscale Silverado 3500HD experience.

• Inventory: There are 1,137 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.8% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD's resale value?

The current average of $46,371 sits slightly below last year's $49,245.

That softer pricing can help you buy more truck for the money today, but it also means future resale values may be shaped by how well the market continues to absorb heavy-duty pickups. If demand stays steady, a well-kept Silverado 3500HD should remain attractive to buyers who need towing and hauling strength.

Condition will matter a lot at resale, especially on trucks that have been used for work or towing. A clean history, strong maintenance records, and desirable equipment can help support value when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD safe?

The Silverado comes standard with a backup camera and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Silverado 3500HD also offers a suite of available driver-assistance features, including forward collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. You can also add front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree parking camera system, which are especially useful on a truck this large.

A key caveat is that many of the more advanced safety features are optional rather than standard, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model year stands out as a heavy-duty work truck that can still handle daily duty, with multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and plenty of cargo space.

The bottom line: If you want a heavy-duty truck with strong capability, broad trim coverage, and a market that still offers some negotiating room, the 2021 Silverado 3500HD is the better path. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on listings near the low end of the range and prioritize condition, equipment, and history over trim prestige.
