CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Chevrolet Colorado
Summary
With 266 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,703, 27.4% of 2021 Chevrolet Colorado listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado 4.6 / 5 stars.
85.7% of 2021 Chevrolet Colorado listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado stands out as a midsize pickup that offers a strong mix of capability and value. By this point in the second generation, Chevrolet had given it a broad range of trims and powertrains, and the truck’s strengths were concentrated in the mid-range and higher trims rather than the base models. It was also available with useful cab and bed combinations, including an extended cab with a long box and a crew cab with either a long or short bed, which helped make it flexible for both work and everyday use.
What makes the 2021 model especially appealing is the way it balances performance, towing, and equipment. The available 3.6-liter V6 delivered 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 2.8-liter Duramax diesel brought 181 horsepower, 369 lb-ft of torque, and up to 7,700 pounds of towing capacity. The Colorado also offered a good spread of features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the larger touchscreen, and higher trims could be equipped with off-road hardware and more advanced safety features. Reviewers also tended to praise its value, performance, ride quality, and decent gas mileage, especially in the Z71 and ZR2 models.
There are some drawbacks to keep in mind. The 2021 Colorado still reflects the second generation’s weaker points, including transmission issues that affected many models from 2014 to 2019 and lingering complaints about rough shifting. Some owners also reported cabin noise, a harsh ride, and limited back-seat comfort. Even so, for buyers who want a midsize truck with real utility, strong available engines, and a wide range of trims, the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado remains a compelling choice.

The Zr2 is a beast. The engine in off road mode has a lot of power and the front and rear lockers make it very off road capable . I’ve been very happy with it.

Drives smooth, acceleration is a little laggy and the turn radius isn’t the best. Phone doesn’t fit wireless charger anything above an iPhone 8 will not fit in the charging pad.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers most often praise its value, performance, and features, and many also call out the ride quality and decent gas mileage. That makes it a sensible fit if you want a midsize pickup that can handle both everyday driving and more utility-focused use, especially in the Z71 and ZR2 trims. With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as dependable in the areas that matter most to them, especially when it comes to value, performance, and features. The same feedback also points to a truck that many owners feel good about keeping over time, even if some mention ride and cabin-comfort tradeoffs. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about finding a well-kept example than avoiding the model outright.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Colorado?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with a history report to confirm accident status, title status, and service records before you commit. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the transmission behavior, ride quality, and cabin condition, since those are the areas buyers most often notice. If you’re comparing multiple trucks, focus on overall condition and maintenance history rather than mileage alone.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado's resale value?
The current average of $25,208 sits slightly below last year's $26,876.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays steady. If you plan to sell later, condition and trim choice will matter a lot, especially because buyers tend to pay more attention to well-equipped versions. Keeping maintenance records and avoiding cosmetic wear should help you protect value.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.21% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2021 is a strong choice if you want a well-liked Colorado with solid market availability and a softer price than last year. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years to see whether a lower asking price or better equipment mix gives you more value for your budget.
