CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV
overall

Summary
With 169 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,045, 34.3% of 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV 3.8 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV stands out as an affordable electric commuter car that takes a different approach from larger, luxury-minded EVs. It uses a smaller battery pack and a nimble platform to maximize efficiency, and it is presented as a more attainable option for many buyers than pricier electric alternatives. That makes it appealing if you want an EV that focuses on practicality and value rather than chasing the highest performance numbers.
Its strengths are straightforward: impressive electric range, fuel efficiency, and a spacious cabin. Those qualities help explain why it can work well as a daily driver, especially for shoppers who want an economical EV with usable room inside. The tradeoffs are also clear, though, with interior materials that feel cheap and seats that are described as uncomfortable.

Pros: -LOVE how it drives and handles the road -Feels spacious despite being compact -Easy features to use -No more gas and limited maintenance! -Awesome battery range Cons (especially related to the LT trim level): -Road noise is still very loud even though its nothing is coming from your engine. -6-speaker sound system absolutely sucks -Missing spot or sunglasses -No USB-c -No leather seats -No all-weather mats -No electric seat adjustments -Lots of plastic on the interior -No window tinting -No automatic windshield wipers -No 3D backup camera view -Get get the stupid XM radio to stop blasting me out every time I turn on my car (Apple Car play is much quieter) The 2022 (especially the 2LT trim level) looks like it is a very nice upgrade on the interior compared to the 2021.

Initial cost to purchase is low really hard to beat. Rear seat Comfort is excellent. Front seat Comfort also excellent . handles very well. Accelerates beautiful , can pass most others in a heartbeat if you’re talking about gas cars.

How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,963 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,328 |
| Year-Round High | $17,378 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,241 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +11.30% |
Prices are up 11.30% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 172 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV a good car?
It’s a strong fit if you want an affordable EV that prioritizes practicality, range, and everyday usability over luxury polish. The user rating is 3.8/5, and the expert rating is 7.2/10.
The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise the spacious cabin, impressive battery range, and enjoyable driving experience. They also like the low maintenance costs and overall value for money.
The main trade-offs are cheap-feeling interior materials and uncomfortable seats, and the expert review also points to confusing controls and laggy screen behavior.
That lines up with the Bolt EV’s role as a practical commuter EV with usable room inside and a value-first mission. If you want an economical electric daily driver rather than a premium-feeling one, it fits that brief well.
Only 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards selective shopping.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV reliable?
The Bolt EV is presented as a practical electric commuter, and owners highlight low maintenance costs along with strong value for money.
Drivers also describe it as dependable for daily use, with praise centered on its trouble-free feel, strong range, and long-term usefulness.
The expert review reinforces that theme by emphasizing the Bolt EV’s efficient layout, low center of gravity, and around-town ease of use.
The battery pack is covered by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty, which helps reduce long-term ownership risk for used buyers, but you should still check battery health and charging behavior carefully.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the vehicle history report, confirm the battery and charging system behave normally, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection. Focus on cabin condition too, since the interior materials and seats are common weak points.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LT comes with alloy wheels, remote start, a 10.2-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, WiFi hotspot, automatic climate control, dual USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, and satellite radio. The Premier adds leather upholstery, a rear center armrest, heated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a removable cargo load floor. The Premier is the better-equipped choice, while the LT is the value pick if you want the essentials.
- Powertrain: The Bolt EV uses a front-wheel-drive electric setup with a 66-kilowatt-hour battery pack, 200 horsepower, and 266 pound-feet of torque. It delivers strong low-end pickup and is especially well suited to city driving.
- Safety package: Chevy’s Teen Driver feature is standard, but most advanced driver-assistance features are bundled into option packages. Driver Confidence I adds rear parking sensors, lane-change alert, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Driver Confidence II adds automatic high beams, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a following distance indicator, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
- Infotainment: The LT includes a 10.2-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is standard, but the layout can feel clunky and laggy.
- Range & charging: The Bolt EV has an estimated 259-mile range. Level 1 charging adds about four miles of range per hour, Level 2 charging adds about 25 miles per hour, and DC fast charging can add up to 100 miles in 30 minutes on the Premier.
- Battery health: For a used EV, check battery state-of-health, confirm the car charges normally at home and on DC fast chargers, and review how much of the battery warranty remains.
Which 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV trim should I buy?
The 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV is offered in 2 trim levels: LT and Premier.
Here's the short version:
- LT: This is the value choice if you want the Bolt EV’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get the 10.2-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, WiFi hotspot, automatic climate control, and the everyday usability that makes the Bolt EV appealing.
- Premier: This is the better-equipped trim if you want a more comfortable cabin. It adds leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a removable cargo load floor. If you want the best mix of comfort and convenience, this is the one to target.
The safety package is mostly optional, so check whether the car you’re considering has Driver Confidence I or Driver Confidence II.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV?
Act selectively, because this is still a seller-leaning market and the best listings can move quickly.
- Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 172 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 11.30% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 83.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,328, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV's resale value?
The current average of $16,963 sits slightly above last year's $15,241.
That upward move suggests the Bolt EV has held buyer interest well for a used EV. If you sell, you may benefit from the model’s practical range, low running costs, and strong value reputation.
The current price also sits near the middle of the year-round range, which suggests the market is still fairly active. For a future seller, that means condition, mileage, and equipment will matter a lot in how quickly your car moves.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV safe?
The 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV earns a best five-star crash test rating from NHTSA and is a 2019 IIHS Top Safety Pick, a rating that carries into 2021.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Chevy’s Teen Driver feature is standard, and it lets you set speed and volume limits for a second key. The standard safety equipment otherwise includes the usual airbags, traction control, and a backup camera.
Most advanced driver-assistance features are optional, with Driver Confidence I adding rear parking sensors, lane-change alert, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Driver Confidence II adds automatic high beams, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a following distance indicator, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 11.30% year-over-year.
- It offers strong range, practical value, and a well-rounded commuter focus.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $18,931, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $16,963 average.
- It adds standard DC fast charging.
The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the lower entry price and a proven value-focused EV. Move to the 2022 if standard DC fast charging matters enough to justify the higher average price; otherwise, the 2021 is the smarter buy for price-sensitive shoppers.
