How much does the 2020 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 1.27% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,056 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Toyota Tacoma earns 4.3/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Drivers commonly praise its reliability, performance, and design, and many also value its practicality and strong off-road capability. The trade-offs are familiar: pricing can feel high, and some shoppers note missing features such as heated seats and navigation. It fits you best if you want a tough, familiar midsize pickup with everyday usefulness and off-road credibility rather than a polished, luxury-like truck. 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to reliability, dependability, and a truck that many drivers feel good about keeping for the long haul.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression with language about the Tacoma’s dependable off-road features and its ability to keep buyers satisfied over time. The ownership risk for used buyers is less about basic trustworthiness and more about making sure the truck was maintained well and not abused off-road.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

At 65.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of bodywork, undercarriage condition, and signs of hard use. Pay extra attention to how the truck was driven and whether any off-road wear, repairs, or modifications show up in the listing or inspection. If you are comparing multiple examples, focus on condition first and equipment second.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR and SR5 are the only trims with the 2.7-liter engine, while higher trims add the 3.5-liter V6 and more capability. The Limited trim adds 18-inch wheels, and the TRD Pro stands out with redesigned LED headlights, a new grille, skid plate, exposed red shocks, and 16-inch black TRD wheels with all-terrain tires.
• Powertrain: The base 2.7-liter four-cylinder makes 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while the 3.5-liter V6 makes 278 hp and 265 lb-ft. Rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic are standard on most trims, while 4WD is standard on the TRD Pro and optional elsewhere; a 6-speed manual is available on TRD Off-Road and Pro models.
• Safety package: The Tacoma includes forward-emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control as standard. Blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors are optional, and the Technology Package adds blind-spot monitoring on recommended builds.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard, while an 8-inch unit with navigation is available. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa are standard, and wireless phone charging and onboard Wi-Fi are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The inline-four returns 20 mpg city and 23 highway, while the V6 returns 18 city and 22 highway.

Which 2020 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Off-Road, TRD Sport, Limited, TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live with the base 2.7-liter engine and the most basic equipment.
• SR5: This is the better everyday starting point because it keeps the Tacoma affordable while opening the door to the optional V6, making it the most sensible value for many shoppers.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the best-value choice if you want the Tacoma’s off-road hardware and capability without jumping all the way to the top of the lineup.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a less extreme, more road-oriented Tacoma and can spend a bit more for a step up in equipment.
• Limited: This is the trim to consider if you want the most comfort-focused Tacoma, including the 18-inch wheels and a more upscale presentation.
• TRD Pro: This is the most off-road-focused version, with standard 4WD and the most aggressive hardware and styling.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, with standard driver assists including adaptive cruise control and forward-emergency braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,056 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.27% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,297, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $30,090 sits slightly below last year's $30,476.

That small decline suggests the Tacoma is holding value reasonably well rather than sliding sharply. For a future seller, that means you are not looking at a truck with collapsing demand, but you should still expect pricing to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong history reports should remain easier to move than rougher trucks.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma is an IIHS Top Safety Pick and earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Tacoma comes standard with forward-emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors are optional, so you may want to prioritize a listing that includes the available safety tech. The lower Acceptable result in the small overlap test is the main caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It gets important design and technology updates that move it a little closer to modern expectations.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $28,686, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $30,090 average.
• It leans into a raw, honest truck personality with strong loyalty appeal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $31,756, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $30,090 average.
• It adds two special editions and standard dual-zone climate control on V6 models.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, availability, and updated features, the 2020 is the main target. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer special editions and are willing to pay more.
