How much does the 2020 Toyota RAV4 cost?

Prices have softened 2.34% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,105 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its combination of performance, reliability, and comfort, and they also highlight its stylish design and safety features. The overview fits that feedback: you get a compact crossover that can work as practical transportation or as a more adventurous SUV, depending on how you equip it.

The main trade-off is fuel economy, which the expert review calls poor, and the driving notes also point to some transmission hesitation at times. Even so, the RAV4’s broad usefulness makes it a strong fit if you want a comfortable, easy-to-live-with SUV with a lot of everyday appeal.

The market shows 37.0% good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to reliability, dependability, and a vehicle that many drivers feel good about keeping for the long haul. That same feedback also ties the RAV4 to comfort and family-friendly usefulness, which usually matters when you’re judging whether a used SUV will stay satisfying over time.

The expert review also describes the RAV4 as comfortable, practical, roomy, safe, and good to drive, which supports the idea that it should be easy to count on day to day. On top of that, Toyota includes 2 years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the concept and more about how the specific example was maintained and driven.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota RAV4?

At 69.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim level you expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and Limited. The LE starts the gas model lineup, while higher trims add more equipment and the TRD Off-Road brings a more rugged setup with all-terrain tires, a special suspension, and dirt-friendly cabin touches. The best-value trim is the XLE with the top option package, which the review calls the strongest blend of equipment and value.
• Powertrain: The gas model uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine making 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The review says it feels energetic enough for the class, though the transmission can seem unsure at times.
• Safety package: Every 2020 RAV4 includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, with Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, radar adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, front and rear parking assist with automated braking, and blind spot assist with rear cross-traffic alert. The IIHS Top Safety Pick rating applies only to models with the full LED, curve adaptive headlights, so headlight equipment matters.
• Infotainment: Depending on trim, you get a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, connected services, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot are included, and the system is described as easy to use. Wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and a digital rear-view mirror are available with the Technology Package.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says it averaged 23.4 mpg in testing, and it also notes an official EPA estimate of 27 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2020 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point for the gas model, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and the core RAV4 experience without paying for extras.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim. The review specifically calls out the XLE with the top option package as the strongest blend of equipment and value, making it the smart pick for most shoppers.
• XLE Premium: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel than the XLE and are willing to pay for it.
• Adventure: This trim leans into the RAV4’s more rugged side and adds off-road-oriented capability compared with the lower trims.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the most specialized gas trim, with all-terrain tires, a TRD suspension, and a torque-vectoring AWD system. It suits you best if you want the most dirt-ready version.
• Limited: This is the top-end comfort-and-features choice if you want the most upscale gas RAV4.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the IIHS Top Safety Pick rating applies only to models equipped with the full LED, curve adaptive headlights.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota RAV4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,105 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.34% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,596, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $23,201 sits slightly below last year's $23,756.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean a seller needs to price competitively later. If you own one, the current trend implies you should expect steady demand rather than a sharp appreciation story.

The RAV4’s broad appeal, strong safety reputation, and high owner satisfaction should help support resale strength over time. Well-kept examples with the right equipment should remain easier to move than less desirable or poorly documented listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 safe?

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, but only on models equipped with the full LED, curve adaptive headlights.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2020 RAV4 includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which brings Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, radar adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, front and rear parking assist with automated braking, and blind spot assist with rear cross-traffic alert. Toyota also includes Safety Connect with automatic collision notification, an SOS emergency assistance button, and enhanced roadside assistance.

The main caveat is the headlight-related IIHS note: without the full LED, curve adaptive headlights, headlight performance is rated Marginal. That makes trim and equipment selection important if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds the TRD Off-Road trim and keeps the lineup broad, giving you more rugged and value-focused choices.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $22,152, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $23,201 average.
• The prior year emphasizes bold styling, new tech, and added off-road credibility.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,487, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,201 average.
• The next year adds the RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid and a few small updates.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price, features, and availability, the 2020 is the sweet spot. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer-year premium or the broader update path.
