How much does the 2020 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 2,502 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare by trim, mileage, and condition.

Is the 2020 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Corolla earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, reliable performance, modern safety features, stylish design, and good value for the price. The expert review also points to a more appealing personality than older Corollas, with a more polished interior and a driving feel that is more engaging than the nameplate’s old reputation suggests.

The main trade-offs are seat comfort, sound insulation, and tight back legroom. For you, that means the Corolla makes the most sense as a sensible daily driver if you value efficiency, safety, and low running costs over long-haul comfort.

With 31.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a strong-value example.

Is the 2020 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback highlights reliable performance, excellent fuel economy, and a car that feels dependable in everyday use. The expert review also describes it as cheap to buy, dependable, and thrifty with fuel, which reinforces the Corolla’s reputation as a car you can count on.

Toyota’s cost-effectiveness notes also frame it as a practical, low-stress ownership choice, especially if you want a compact sedan that keeps running costs in check. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about finding one that has been cared for well enough to avoid comfort and wear-related disappointments.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Corolla?

At 55.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Pay close attention to seat condition, cabin noise, and rear-seat space, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day satisfaction. If you plan to keep the car for a long time, focus on maintenance records and overall condition rather than just the lowest price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L trim is the entry point, while LE and XLE add more comfort and convenience, and SE and XSE bring a sportier look and more appealing interior quality. The base setup is the most stripped-down, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want a better cabin experience.
• Powertrain: The L, LE, and XLE use a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder with 139 horsepower and a CVT, while SE and XSE upgrade to a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 169 horsepower and a more sophisticated CVT. The SE also offers a 6-speed manual, and the more powerful setup is the better fit if you want a livelier drive.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes low-light pedestrian detection, daytime cyclist detection, road-sign recognition, and Lane Tracing Assist. Blind-spot monitoring is standard on XLE and XSE and optional on LE and SE, so lower trims may leave you wanting more.
• Infotainment: The system uses Entune 3.0 with a 7-inch screen on lower trims and an 8-inch display on LE and above. Apple CarPlay is included, Android Auto is not, and wireless device charging is available on XSE and XLE.
• Fuel efficiency: The test car returned 31 mpg city, 38 highway, and 34 combined, and the review notes that real-world efficiency should be better for many drivers.

Which 2020 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Corolla is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, XSE.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest way into the Corolla, but it is also the most basic. Choose it only if your priority is the lowest possible entry price and you are comfortable giving up some convenience and polish.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds useful equipment without pushing the price into the upper end of the range. It also gets the larger 8-inch display, making it the smartest balance of features and cost.
• XLE: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale-feeling Corolla with more comfort and convenience. It suits you best if you care more about refinement than sporty character.
• SE: This is the trim to choose if you want the Corolla to feel more engaging. The 2.0-liter engine and available 6-speed manual make it the most appealing choice for drivers who want a little fun.
• XSE: This is the most fully featured and most polished version, with the strongest mix of style, equipment, and driving appeal. It is the right choice if you want the nicest Corolla and are willing to pay for it.

Blind-spot monitoring is standard on XLE and XSE, while LE and SE get it only as an option.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Corolla?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,502 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,780, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $16,534 sits slightly above last year's $16,489.

That small increase suggests the Corolla has held its value in a stable way rather than swinging sharply up or down. For you as a future seller, that kind of pricing pattern is encouraging because it points to steady demand and predictable depreciation. The Corolla’s reputation for reliability and efficiency should continue to support buyer interest when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2020 Toyota Corolla earns a five-star rating for frontal-impact protection from NHTSA, and the IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every Corolla and includes low-light pedestrian detection, daytime cyclist detection, road-sign recognition, and Lane Tracing Assist. Blind-spot monitoring is standard on XLE and XSE and optional on LE and SE, but it does not include rear cross-traffic alert. The expert review also notes that the lane-departure warning can be irritating because of its sharp audible alert.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned model adds style and a bit of enjoyment to the Corolla formula.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $16,972, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $16,534 average.
• It adds a more engaging personality in SE and XSE trims.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and a stable used-car market, the 2020 is the smarter starting point. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and want the slightly more engaging personality described in the next-year overview, the 2021 is worth a look.
