Used 2020 Toyota Avalon for Sale near Virginia

How much does the 2020 Toyota Avalon cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 299 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon a good car?

Yes — your 4.5/5 user rating lines up with an expert score of 7.7/10. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The Avalon’s appeal is rooted in its full-size sedan mission: it feels like a flagship, brings a sense of occasion, and offers a spacious cabin. The expert review also points to a revitalized design and a more modern platform, which helps it feel more upscale and distinctive than a typical practical sedan.

The main trade-off is value, since the test-drive data describes it as poor value for money. That makes the Avalon a stronger fit if you want size, comfort, and a premium-feeling sedan experience than if you are shopping strictly for the lowest cost.

Only 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than especially bargain-heavy.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Avalon’s reliability case is supported by its standard advanced safety equipment and the fact that Toyota builds it around a modern platform with a well-established V6 powertrain. The expert review also describes it as smooth and quiet on the highway, which is the kind of everyday behavior that usually helps ownership feel consistent over time.

Toyota’s safety and performance notes also point to a conventional, naturally aspirated engine and a standard eight-speed automatic, which can be reassuring if you prefer a simpler setup over more complex alternatives. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s premium positioning and equipment level justify its running costs and purchase price.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Avalon?

At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or any signs of prior collision repair. Focus on overall condition, panel alignment, tire wear, brake feel, and whether the cabin electronics and safety systems operate as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XLE uses 17-inch wheels, while Limited gets 18-inch wheels and XSE, Touring, and TRD use 19-inch wheels; Touring and Limited also add a standard 10-inch color Head-Up Display.
• Powertrain: The Avalon uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is limited to Limited and Touring.
• Infotainment: A 9-inch touchscreen is standard, Apple CarPlay is included, Android Auto is not available, and wireless capability is not mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: The Avalon XLE is rated at 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined; XSE, TRD, Limited, and Touring are rated at 22/31/25 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Avalon is offered in 5 trim levels: XLE, XSE, TRD, Limited, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• XLE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Avalon’s core strengths, including the 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and the standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the Avalon experience at the lowest starting price.
• XSE: This trim adds a more athletic look with 19-inch wheels and keeps the same core tech and safety equipment. It is a good choice if you want style without moving too far up the price ladder.
• TRD: This is the most characterful choice, with track-tuned coil springs and 19-inch wheels, but it is best for shoppers who want the sportiest Avalon rather than the most comfort-focused one.
• Limited: This is the best-value upscale pick if you want more luxury, since it adds the premium audio setup and the 10-inch Head-Up Display, and it can also get the available Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking.
• Touring: This trim also gets the premium audio setup, the 10-inch Head-Up Display, and the available safety upgrade, while adding an adaptive suspension system for a more polished driving feel.

The safety-package trim note to keep in mind is that Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is available only on Limited and Touring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Avalon?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings closely.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 299 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,925, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Avalon’s resale value?

The current average of $27,369 sits slightly below last year's $27,510.

That small decline suggests the Avalon has been holding value fairly steadily rather than dropping sharply. For a future seller, that can be a positive sign because it points to a market that is stable enough to avoid steep short-term depreciation swings.

The current pricing also suggests buyers still see enough appeal in the Avalon’s size, safety, and flagship feel to support demand. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, that steadiness can help you recover a reasonable share of your purchase price later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon safe?

The 2020 Toyota Avalon earns Good ratings from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, which gives you a broad safety package even on the lower trims.

One caveat to keep in mind is that IIHS rated the headlights on XLE and XSE as Poor, so trim choice matters if lighting performance is important to you. The Avalon’s overall safety picture is still strong, but that headlight result is worth checking before you buy.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model marks the Avalon’s 25th birthday and benefits from the revitalized TNGA-based fifth generation.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $23,969, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,369 average.
• It brings new looks, new tech, and more power.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $27,800, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,369 average.
• It is comfortable and spacious, with TRD adding extra performance and style.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price stability, safety, and flagship sedan character, the 2020 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want a newer model-year alternative and can spend more, the 2021 is worth a look.
