CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Tesla Model S

Summary
With 371 currently listed for sale and an average price of $33,334, 33.2% of 2020 Tesla Model Ss for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Tesla Model S 4.67 / 5 stars.
82.2% of 2020 Model S models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Tesla Model S stands out as a luxury electric sedan that helped define the modern EV era, and by this point it had already built a reputation around long range, advanced technology, and strong performance. It also remained distinctive for its software-driven approach, with Tesla rolling out changes when they were ready rather than following a traditional annual model-year cycle. For buyers, that means the 2020 Model S sits in a lineup known for constant updates rather than a single fixed specification.
For this model year, the Model S came with Autopilot as standard, along with the Full Self-Driving Computer that laid the groundwork for FSD Beta released in 2020. It also offered a 200-kWh V3 Supercharger compatibility for faster charging, and the guide notes that the last year of this generation was generally considered a great year thanks to better fit and finish and fewer software glitches. At the same time, it still lacked Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Tesla’s build quality remained a common drawback.
Owners also tend to praise the 2020 Model S for its impressive range, advanced technology, and excellent performance, with the driving experience described as both comfortable and sporty. That combination makes it appealing to shoppers who want an EV that feels quick and modern while still being usable every day.

Reviewed a 2020 Tesla Model S on Jul 3, 2020
This is one of the best EVs on the market with superior range (rated for 400 miles plus) Handling is also great with active suspension. This is a hi-tech car with constant downloads to the software to make it even better. All that said, it is in serious need of a re-design from a body standpoint. the interior is very nice but not what you would expect from a $100k plus car compared to others in this price range. But as I said from a technology standpoint for EVs no one comes close.

Because this model year is known for advanced technology and software-driven features, you’ll want to make sure everything works as expected and that the car feels consistent with its advertised condition.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Tesla Model S?
This looks like a moderate market, so you can buy now if the right listing appears, but you should still be selective.
- Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 370 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 5.65% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 82.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $30,225, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $33,267 sits slightly above last year's $31,487.
That upward move suggests the market still sees value in this model year, which can help support resale strength if you buy well and keep the car in good condition. A stable-to-rising price trend also means future buyers may continue to view it as a desirable used EV rather than a bargain-only option. If you plan to sell later, the combination of demand and limited clean inventory can work in your favor.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 5.65% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2020 Model S is the right pick if you want a well-liked, tech-forward luxury EV with strong owner satisfaction and a market that still shows decent deal availability. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2020 stands out as a balanced choice when you want a mix of demand, condition, and buyer appeal.
