How much does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 8.09% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,067 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable range of choices.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 8/10 expert rating point to a strong overall case for you if you want a luxury car with style and technology. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

The E-Class stands out as a luxury car that feels like a personal reward, with a stylish design, impressive technology, and an effortless demeanor. It also offers multiple body styles, which broadens its appeal if you want the E-Class experience in different forms.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, fuel economy is poor, and the technology can be difficult to use.

With 32.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The E-Class is described as a rock-solid, impeccably built car, and the test-drive data emphasizes that it feels well engineered and refined. The performance notes also point to a revised turbo setup that improves response and reduces noise, which supports the sense that the car is built to deliver smooth, durable everyday use.

If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is that a luxury car with complex technology can become costly if prior maintenance was skipped.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 66.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has advanced options or a long list of electronics. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the technology and driver-assistance features work as intended. Because this model can be expensive to repair, a clean, well-documented example matters more than a bargain with unknown history.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base sedan already feels upscale, with leatherette, standard seats, and a cabin that still feels several cuts above many rivals. Higher-spec versions add richer materials, more dramatic lighting, and more lavish comfort features, so the gap between a basic car and a well-optioned one can be substantial.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder is improved over previous years, with quicker response from a revised turbo and shorter intake runners, but it still trails the stronger V6 and AMG options in effortless passing power. If you want smoother everyday performance, the larger engines are the better fit.
• Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package adds the semi-automated driving system, including steering assistance, obstacle avoidance help, lane changes with the turn signal, curve slowing, and broader sensing around the car. Forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while other driver-assist features remain optional.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses dual high-resolution screens, and Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard. The system also offers multiple display designs and options, but the tech can be difficult to use, so you should test the interface yourself before buying.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is EPA-estimated between 19 to 23 mpg city and 26 to 32 highway, depending on powertrain and body style.

Which 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350 sedan, E450 coupe, E450 4Matic wagon, E450 cabriolet.

Here's the short version:

• E350 sedan: This is the entry point and the best-value choice if you want the E-Class experience at the lowest starting price. It gives you the core luxury feel, the stylish cabin, and the standard tech, but it also comes with the underwhelming base engine and the most obvious feature gaps versus the pricier body styles.
• E450 coupe: Choose this if you want a more personal, style-forward E-Class and are willing to pay more for the coupe body. It adds a stronger engine and a more upscale price position, but it is less practical than the sedan.
• E450 4Matic wagon: This is the most versatile pick if you want cargo flexibility and all-weather confidence in a luxury package. It suits you best if you value utility without giving up the E-Class look and feel.
• E450 cabriolet: Pick this if open-air driving is the priority and you want the most indulgent version of the lineup. It is the most lifestyle-oriented choice, but it is also the least practical and the most expensive of the group.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that the most advanced driver-assistance features are optional, so you should verify equipment carefully on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,067 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.09% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,840, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $29,840 sits slightly below last year's $32,466.

That decline suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you if you're buying now and may soften the hit if you sell later. For a future seller, the key is to hold onto a clean, well-maintained example with desirable equipment, because condition and documentation matter more once a luxury car starts aging. The current pricing also suggests there is still room for further depreciation, so resale value will depend heavily on how well the car is preserved.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The E-Class sedan and wagon scored a five-star overall rating and five stars in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The sedan is rated a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) with the highest ratings in six crash tests, headlights, and collision-avoidance systems.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The Driver Assistance Package adds the semi-automated driving system, which can steer, help avoid stopped obstacles, change lanes with the turn signal, slow for curves, and sense people and objects around the car. Forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while other driver-assist features remain optional.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For 2020, a new base engine joins the lineup, but the test-drive data still describes that engine as underwhelming.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $35,936, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,840 average.
• It gets a mid-cycle update for the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If you want the newer update and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade path.
