How much does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 6.79% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,009 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare by body style, trim, and condition.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

The 2020 E-Class fits you well if you want a premium car that looks and feels special, with multiple body styles, stylish design, and impressive technology. The trade-offs are that the base engine is underwhelming and the technology can be difficult to use.

36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you have room to shop selectively without rushing.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2020 E-Class is described as a rock-solid, impeccably built car, and the expert notes emphasize its strong build quality and refined demeanor. Its performance notes also point to a well-mannered powertrain lineup, with the upgraded engines delivering smoother, more effortless driving than the base setup.

The maintenance and ownership picture is helped by the car’s premium construction and broad engineering depth, though the cost of options can climb quickly. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is paying for a complex luxury car without verifying that it has been maintained properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired correctly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with advanced tech or higher-end options, since those systems can be expensive to sort out later. Focus on overall condition, service records, and whether the car’s features work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base sedan already feels upscale, but the cabin presentation gets richer with features like multi-tone leathers, heated armrests, massaging seats, and the available hood ornament and thin-laced chrome grille. If you want the most polished experience, look beyond the entry setup and compare how much equipment each body style and trim adds.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder is improved, but it can feel strained in a heavy car and loses momentum above 40 mph. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 is the better all-around choice if you want smoother, more effortless performance.
• Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package adds the semi-automated driving system, including steering assistance, obstacle avoidance help, lane changes with the turn signal, curve slowing, and broader object detection. Forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while other driver-assist features are optional.
• Infotainment: Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard. The dash can be reconfigured in three designs, and the instrument panel offers multiple display options, but the system can be difficult to use.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is EPA-estimated between 19 and 23 mpg city and 26 to 32 highway, depending on powertrain and body style.

Which 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350 sedan, E450 coupe, E450 4Matic wagon, E450 cabriolet.

Here's the short version:

• E350 sedan: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core E-Class experience at the lowest price. It is the best-value choice if you want the design, comfort, and technology without stretching into the pricier body styles.
• E450 coupe: This is for you if you want the more powerful V6 and a more personal, style-first layout. It costs more, but it brings a stronger sense of occasion.
• E450 4Matic wagon: Choose this if you want the most practical body style in the lineup with the V6 upgrade and all-wheel drive.
• E450 cabriolet: Pick this if open-air driving matters most and you want the most indulgent version of the E-Class experience.

The sedan and wagon earn the strongest safety recognition, while the coupe and cabriolet were not tested by IIHS or NHTSA.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,009 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.79% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,943, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $30,610 sits slightly below last year's $32,841.

That decline suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you if you buy used and plan to sell later. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned than a buyer who pays closer to the top of the range. The current pricing also means future resale will likely depend heavily on mileage, condition, and equipment level.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The sedan and wagon come with forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring as standard equipment. The Driver Assistance Package adds the semi-automated driving features, including steering help, lane changes with the turn signal, curve slowing, and broader object detection. Some additional driver-assist features remain optional, and the coupe and cabriolet were not tested by IIHS or NHTSA.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds a new base engine while keeping the E-Class’s upscale design, technology, and effortless demeanor.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $36,517, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $30,610 average.
• It brings a mid-cycle update to the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you want the newer update and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade path.
