How much does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 8.89% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,021 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability for shoppers comparing trims and body styles.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns 5/5 from users and 8/10 from expert testing. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

It stands out as a luxury car with stylish design, impressive technology, and an effortless demeanor, and it offers multiple body styles that broaden its appeal. The trade-offs are that the base engine is underwhelming and the technology can be difficult to use.

The market also looks reasonably favorable, with 34.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The E-Class is described as beautifully built and generally reliable, with a rock-solid, impeccably built character. Its performance notes also point to a revised turbocharged 4-cylinder that is noticeably improved from previous years, with quicker response and less noise than before.

On the ownership side, the source notes that the car can be expensive to equip, so used buyers should watch for maintenance and option-related costs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether the car has any accident or damage records. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with more options, since the E-Class can vary a lot in equipment and complexity. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and whether the car has been maintained consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sedan, wagon, coupe, and cabriolet give you different body styles, and the base sedan is described as well equipped even before options. The base setup still feels upscale, but higher-spec versions can add much more luxury and visual flair.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder is improved over prior years, with 255 horsepower and quicker response than the rating suggests. The lineup also includes a 3.0-liter V6 with 362 hp, plus AMG models with much more power.
• Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package adds the semi-automated driving system, including steering assistance, stopped-obstacle help, lane changes with the turn signal, curve slowing, and sensing of people and objects around the car. Forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while other driver-assist features are optional.
• Infotainment: Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard, and the dash can be reconfigured in multiple designs. The tech suite also includes V2X messaging and a Burmester stereo, while the Driver Assistance Package unlocks the most advanced automation features.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is EPA-estimated between 19 to 23 mpg city and 26 to 32 highway, depending on powertrain and body style.

Which 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350 sedan, E450 coupe, E450 4Matic wagon, E450 cabriolet.

Here's the short version:

• E350 sedan: This is the entry point and the best-value choice if you want the E-Class experience at the lowest starting price. It still comes across as well equipped and upscale, but the base engine is the weakest part of the lineup.
• E450 coupe: This adds a more powerful V6 and a more dramatic body style, making it a better fit if you want stronger performance and a more personal luxury feel.
• E450 4Matic wagon: Choose this if you want the most versatile body style in the lineup, along with the V6 upgrade and all-wheel drive.
• E450 cabriolet: This is the open-top choice for buyers who want the most indulgent version of the E-Class experience, with the same V6 power and the most relaxed, style-forward character.

The safety package note is important: the most advanced driver-assistance features are bundled into the Driver Assistance Package, while forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,021 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.89% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,626, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $29,626 sits slightly below last year's $32,518.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also means you should expect depreciation to remain a meaningful factor, especially if the car is heavily optioned. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history should still draw stronger interest than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan and wagon earn five-star overall ratings from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability, and the sedan is a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The Driver Assistance Package adds the semi-automated driving system, which can steer, help avoid stopped obstacles, change lanes with the turn signal, slow for curves, and detect people and objects around the car. Standard safety equipment includes forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring. Some advanced driver-assistance features remain optional.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds a new base engine while keeping the E-Class's stellar design, technology, and effortless demeanor.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $35,644, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,626 average.
• It gets a mid-cycle update for the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you want the fresher update and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the better path.
