How much does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 7.81% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,037 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 8/10 expert rating point to a strong overall package. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

The 2020 E-Class fits you well if you want a luxury car that feels like a personal reward, with stylish design, impressive technology, and an effortless demeanor. It also offers multiple body styles, which broadens its appeal if you want the E-Class experience in different forms.

The trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and technology that can be difficult to use. Even so, 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The E-Class is described as a rock-solid, impeccably built car, and the expert notes also emphasize its strong build quality and refined demeanor. The performance write-up says the revised turbocharged 4-cylinder is noticeably improved from previous years, with quicker response and less noise, which supports the idea that the car is engineered to feel polished in daily use.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to Mercedes-Benz build quality and long-term value considerations, including the suggestion that a used example can make more sense after depreciation. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that luxury-car upkeep and option complexity can make a well-kept example much easier to live with than a neglected one.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 68.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or has a long feature list. Focus on overall condition, because this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well the cabin, electronics, and luxury features have been maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base E-Class already feels upscale, with leatherette, standard seats, and a cabin that still sits several cuts above many rivals. Higher trims and body styles add richer materials, more visual drama, and more luxury presence, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want the best value.
• Powertrain: The new base turbocharged 4-cylinder is improved over prior years, with 273 pound-feet of torque and a revised turbo setup that helps response. The V6 upgrade is the better choice if you want smoother, more effortless performance, while the AMG models push the car into much more serious performance territory.
• Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package unlocks the semi-automated driving system, including steering assistance, obstacle avoidance help, lane changes with the turn signal, curve slowing, and sensing people and objects around the car. Forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while other driver-assist features remain optional.
• Infotainment: The dash uses dual high-resolution screens, and Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard. The system also offers multiple display designs and extra screen views, but the tech can be difficult to use, so you should test it yourself before buying.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is EPA-estimated between 19 and 23 mpg city and 26 to 32 highway, depending on powertrain and body style.

Which 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350 sedan, E450 coupe, E450 4Matic wagon, E450 cabriolet.

Here's the short version:

• E350 sedan: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core E-Class experience at the lowest starting price. It is the best-value choice if you want the style, comfort, and technology without stretching into the pricier body styles.
• E450 coupe: This is for you if you want a more dramatic two-door layout and are willing to pay more for the style and presence that come with it.
• E450 4Matic wagon: Choose this if you want the most practical body style in the lineup, along with the added traction of 4Matic.
• E450 cabriolet: This is the most indulgent version, and it suits you if open-air luxury is the priority.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that the Driver Assistance Package contains the full semi-automated feature set, while many other driver-assist features remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,037 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.81% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,928, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $30,021 sits slightly below last year's $32,564.

That decline suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it means the car may continue to face the usual luxury-car depreciation pressure, especially if it is heavily optioned or not well maintained.

The good news is that the E-Class still has strong appeal because it combines style, technology, and a premium feel in a way many shoppers still want. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The E-Class sedan and wagon scored a five-star overall rating and five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability from NHTSA. The sedan is rated a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS with the highest ratings in six crash tests, headlights, and collision-avoidance systems.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The Driver Assistance Package adds the semi-automated driving system, including steering assistance, obstacle avoidance help, automatic lane changes with the turn signal, curve slowing, and sensing people and objects around the car. Standard safety equipment includes forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring.

The coupe and cabriolet were not tested by IIHS or NHTSA, so the strongest crash-test results apply specifically to the sedan and wagon. Rear side airbags are available, including in the two-door models.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For 2020, a new base engine joins the lineup, but the test-drive data still describes that engine as underwhelming.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $36,249, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $30,021 average.
• It gets a mid-cycle update for the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and the model still delivers the core E-Class strengths. If you want the newer update and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade path; price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2020 and shop for a well-kept example with the right options.
