Used 2020 MINI Cooper for Sale nearPhoenix, AZ

How much does the 2020 MINI Cooper cost?

Prices have softened 2.95% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 450 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper a good car?

The 2020 MINI Cooper earns an expert rating of 7.3/10.

The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

The 2020 MINI Cooper fits you best if you want personality, a lively driving feel, and a car that stands out from the usual small-car formula. Its short wheelbase, low curb weight, and torquey engines help make it engaging to drive, and the model’s multiple powertrain options and multiple body styles add flexibility.

The trade-offs are real, though: advanced safety features are not standard, the back seat is cramped, and cargo space is limited. Even so, the market still shows 40.4% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper reliable?

The 2020 MINI Cooper’s appeal is rooted more in character and driving feel than in a reputation for being a low-drama ownership choice. The overview emphasizes its lively nature, while the expert review highlights the short wheelbase, low curb weight, and torquey engines that make it feel eager on the road.

The performance notes also point to a front-wheel-drive setup, regenerative braking on the electric version, and a low center of gravity that helps the car feel planted in corners. On the cost side, the electric version is presented as a relative bargain, and the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s charm comes with space and equipment compromises, so condition and maintenance history matter more than blind optimism.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 MINI Cooper?

At 71.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a car with higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on how well the car has been maintained, because the MINI’s appeal depends heavily on condition and equipment working as intended. Pay extra attention to whether the listing matches the features you expect for the trim level you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin design is centered on circles, with a premium feel, but the base setup lacks some of the equipment that appears on higher trims. The top-tier SE adds an 8.8-inch screen, a wireless charging pad, and a head-up display.
• Powertrain: The model includes a base 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder, a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder in the Cooper S, and an electric motor in the SE. The electric version is quick off the line thanks to immediate torque, while the gas versions use automatic transmissions.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning is standard, but automatic emergency braking is unavailable. Front and rear parking sensors are included with the Iconic package, and the rear-view camera is sharp.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 6.5 inches, with Bluetooth, navigation, and Apple CarPlay. The SE Iconic gets an 8.8-inch screen, and that trim also adds a wireless charging pad and head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The base hardtop returns 28 mpg city, 36 highway, 31 combined. The Cooper S is rated at 26/35/30, and the SE earns 108 MPGe combined.

Which 2020 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2020 MINI Cooper is offered in 3 trim levels: Signature, Signature Plus, and Iconic.

Here's the short version:

• Signature: This is the entry point if you want the MINI experience at the lowest starting point, but you should expect the fewest convenience and tech extras.
• Signature Plus: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and value without jumping all the way to the top.
• Iconic: This is the best-equipped choice, and it’s the one to choose if you want the 8.8-inch screen, wireless charging pad, and head-up display.

The safety package still leaves some gaps, since forward-collision warning is standard but automatic emergency braking is unavailable.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 MINI Cooper?

It looks like a buyer’s market if you’re willing to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 450 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.95% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,935, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 MINI Cooper's resale value?

The current average of $18,751 sits slightly below last year's $19,321.

That tells you the market has eased, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what you can expect later as a seller. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to limit depreciation pain. The strongest resale candidates will likely be the cleanest, best-equipped examples with clear history and desirable trims.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper safe?

The 2020 MINI Cooper received top marks from the IIHS, earning "Good" scores in all crash tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward-collision warning is standard, but automatic emergency braking is unavailable. Front and rear parking sensors are included with the Iconic package, and the rear-view camera is sharp. The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should not assume every used example is equally well equipped.

Should I buy a 2020 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.95% compared with last year.
• This year adds an electric powertrain option and keeps the MINI’s lively, stylish character.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $15,615, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $18,751 average.
• It emphasizes small size, lively character, and playful driving appeal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $20,606, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $18,751 average.
• It adds several new features and brings back a manual transmission option.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price and personality, the 2020 is the smart middle ground. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2019 is the cheaper route; if you want newer features and can spend more, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
