Overview

The MINI Cooper Clubman, last redesigned for 2016, gains powertrain and styling updates for 2020. The Clubman competes with the likes of the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, and Chevy Sonic.
MINI redesigned the front end of the Clubman with a new grille and front lighting, piano black trim, redesigned LED fog lights, and more aerodynamic mirror caps. The rear lights now feature the Union Jack design that has appeared elsewhere in the MINI lineup. Coral Red Metallic and MINI Yours Enigmatic Black Metallic join the color palette. Furthermore, a few wheel designs are phased out in favor of two new two-tone 18-inch designs and a new 19-inch John Cooper Works (JCW) design.
Each trim level gets its own powertrain. The Clubman turbocharged 3.0-cylinder, which makes 134 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and the Clubman S turbocharged 4.0-cylinder, which makes 189 hp and 207 pound-feet of torque, carry over. For 2020, the JCW trim features the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a substantial boost, increasing from 228 to 301 hp. The ALL4 trim designates all-wheel drive (AWD), which is optional on Clubman and Clubman S and standard on JCW. The Clubman and Clubman S feature a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT), and the Clubman S ALL4 and JCW trims get an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2020 Clubman hasn’t been tested for fuel-economy ratings by the EPA.
The MINI Clubman is more spacious inside than you may expect. The features and options structure is complex, with each trim level offering the choice of Classic, Signature, and Iconic interior packages. Synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, and options include leather upholstery, front sport seats, and a panoramic sunroof. For 2020, the base Classic adds heated seats and LED lighting. New options for this year include a Frozen Blue interior combination and a Leather Chesterfield and Malt Brown upholstery option.
The MINI Cooper Clubman’s standard features include a 6.5-inch display, Bluetooth, and a USB port. Options include an 8.8-inch touchscreen display, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, navigation, and wireless-device charging.
The MINI Cooper Clubman has not been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Clubman includes a reversing camera and rear parking sensors. For 2020, the Active Driving Assistant package, which includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information, comes standard across the lineup. Options include front parking sensors, parallel park assist, and a head-up display (HUD).
The MINI Clubman is an eye-catching alternative to other subcompact cars.
