Is the 2020 Kia Telluride a good car?

The main trade-off is the irritating transmission, and the expert notes also point to delayed or inconsistent response and rougher shifting than some rivals. Even so, the Telluride’s roomy cabin and strong value make it a smart fit if you want a three-row SUV for family duty without paying luxury-brand prices.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Kia Telluride?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the transmission behavior, interior wear, and any signs that the vehicle has been used heavily as a family hauler. Focus on whether the features you want are actually present, since some conveniences vary by trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Lower trims delete some of the silver interior coloring, simplify the climate controls, and downsize both the dash and instrument-panel screens, while upper trims add a more upscale look and feel.
• Powertrain: The Telluride uses a single 3.8-liter V6 with 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic; all-wheel drive is available on every trim.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes forward-collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and automatic braking, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, adaptive cruise control, and Safe Exit Assist.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Kia’s UVO link are standard, along with a proximity key; upper trims add navigation and more advanced voice input.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA-estimated fuel economy is 19 mpg city, 24 highway, and 21 combined, while front-wheel-drive models return 20/26/23.

Which 2020 Kia Telluride trim should I buy?

The 2020 Kia Telluride is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, S, EX, SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Telluride’s core space, value, and standard safety tech at the lowest price.
• S: This trim adds a more appealing equipment mix if you want a better everyday balance without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• EX: This is the best-value trim, because it adds heated and cooled front seats, 3-zone climate control, leather upholstery, a power tailgate, navigation, and the widescreen infotainment system.
• SX: This is the most fully equipped version, and it’s the one to choose if you want the richest feature set and the most upscale feel.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but some advanced features are reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Kia Telluride?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,185 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.36% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.2% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2020 Kia Telluride's resale value?

The current average of $19,326 sits slightly below last year's $21,802.

That decline suggests the market has cooled, which can help you as a buyer today but may pressure resale returns if you sell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to limit depreciation losses. Well-equipped family SUVs with broad appeal tend to hold buyer interest better than niche alternatives.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Kia Telluride safe?

The 2020 Kia Telluride is too new to have published crash-test results from NHTSA or IIHS in the source data, but it comes with a strong standard safety suite.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver assistance includes forward-collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and automatic braking, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, adaptive cruise control, and Safe Exit Assist. Surround-view cameras and front parking sensors are optional, and the front passenger does not get a knee airbag.

Should I buy a 2020 Kia Telluride or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out as one of the best buys among three-row SUVs, especially for shoppers in the $30,000 to $50,000 range.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $22,766, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,326 average.
• It adds modest updates like the Nightfall Edition package and a new remote engine-start button.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger buy because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for modest updates and a newer model year, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative.
