CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Jeep Wrangler

Summary
With 601 currently listed for sale near Philadelphia, PA and an average price of $26,462.00, 28.6% of 2020 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Jeep Wrangler 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
95.7% of 2020 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler stands out first and foremost as an American 4x4 icon with military roots and millions of miles of trails traversed. Its appeal is rooted in that rugged identity, and it remains especially attractive to buyers who want a vehicle with genuine off-road capability and a wide range of powertrain options. For 2020, Jeep also adds a new diesel engine in the Wrangler Unlimited, giving it newfound grunt and broadening the model’s mechanical appeal.
That strength comes with an important tradeoff: poor fuel economy. The diesel engine is described as a wash when it comes to your wallet, so the added torque does not necessarily solve the Wrangler’s efficiency drawback. Even so, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler remains distinctive because it combines unmistakable brand recognition and trail-ready character with more than one way to configure its powertrain.

This jeep is absolutely beautiful I don’t think I would’ve found something as spot on to what vehicle I was looking for in another location. The soft top to the jeep makes it way easier to ride with the top opened up compared to the hard top jeeps which I love. The value of it was absolutely worth it too compared to other jeeps I’ve seen with the same amount of mileage you can’t really find something to beat its value. Overall I will definitely be referring friends and family to search for their cars here when they’re in the market for one.

This jeep is beautiful. I loved everything about it. The only reason I haven’t bought it is the engine size. I’m needing a 6 cylinder.

How much does the 2020 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $25,799 |
| Year-Round Low | $25,805.46 |
| Year-Round High | $29,445.09 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $29,445 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.38% |
Prices have softened 12.38% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 7,833 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability.
If you find a listing below $25,805.46, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Generally — the 2020 Jeep Wrangler earns 4.38/5 from owners and 7.67/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the rugged design, off-road capability, and comfort touches like heated seats. They also tend to value the modern features that make daily use easier, even in a vehicle built around trail-ready character.
The trade-offs are clear: fuel economy is a recurring complaint, and noise levels can be a drawback. The Wrangler’s appeal is strongest if you want a distinctive 4x4 with genuine off-road ability rather than a quiet, efficiency-focused commuter.
That makes it a strong fit if you want a vehicle with real trail credibility and broad powertrain choice. It also helps that 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners’ feedback points to a vehicle that many people feel good about living with over time, especially when they value ruggedness and capability. The review summary also emphasizes the Wrangler’s dependable, trouble-free appeal for buyers who want something they can count on.
The diesel powertrain is described as adding strong torque and broadening the model’s mechanical appeal, which supports the sense that this Wrangler is built for long-term use in demanding conditions. The cost-effectiveness discussion also notes that the diesel’s economics are close to a wash, so ownership planning matters.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Wrangler’s rugged mission can come with higher operating costs and more wear-sensitive ownership expectations than a typical SUV.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Jeep Wrangler?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the vehicle has seen trail use. Focus on condition details that matter on a Wrangler: signs of hard use, missing or damaged equipment, and anything that suggests the vehicle has lived a tougher life than average.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport is very bare-bones, with a 5-inch touchscreen, eight speakers, manual windows and locks, and little else. The Sport S adds power windows and locks, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry, while the Sahara brings a more upscale look with body-color fender flares, 18-inch alloy wheels, and bigger brakes. The Rubicon is the most off-road-focused version, with a lifted suspension and mud-terrain tires.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, a turbocharged 4-cylinder with 270 hp and 295 lb-ft, or a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 260 hp and 442 lb-ft. The diesel stands out for its strong low-speed torque and highway passing power.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes airbags, electronic roll mitigation, and a backup camera. The base safety package adds rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control and full-speed forward-collision warning.
- Infotainment: The Sport and Sport S use a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and USB. The Sport S can be upgraded to a 7-inch touchscreen with Uconnect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and the Sahara and Rubicon come standard with that 7-inch setup. An available 8.4-inch Uconnect system adds navigation, HD Radio, real-time traffic and weather updates, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The diesel returns 22 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined. The most efficient gas version returns 21 mpg city, 22 highway, and 21 combined.
Which 2020 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the most stripped-down choice, with manual windows and locks, a 5-inch touchscreen, USB, and eight speakers. It makes sense only if you want the lowest entry point and plan to add very little.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds power windows and locks, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry. It also unlocks key option packages, including the Technology Package and Cold Weather Group.
- Sahara: This is the more upscale daily-driver choice, with body-color fender flares, 18-inch alloy wheels, bigger brakes, and standard 7-inch infotainment. It suits you if you want more comfort and a more polished look.
- Rubicon: This is the most trail-focused trim, with a lifted suspension, mud-terrain tires, and additional mechanical upgrades. Choose it if off-road capability matters more than comfort or price.
The safety packages are worth adding, especially the base safety package and the Advanced Safety Group.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Jeep Wrangler?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 7,833 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.38% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,805.46, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $25,799 sits slightly below last year's $29,445.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, it also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.
Wranglers tend to hold buyer interest because they have a strong identity and a loyal audience. That can help support resale value, especially if you keep the vehicle clean, well-documented, and free of obvious abuse.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler safe?
It earns 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes airbags, electronic roll mitigation, and a backup camera. The base safety package adds rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control and full-speed forward-collision warning.
That said, the Wrangler’s awkward sightlines make the available driver-assistance features especially valuable. If you’re shopping used, prioritize a truck with the safety packages already installed.
Should I buy a 2020 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.38% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 adds a new diesel engine in the Wrangler Unlimited, broadening the powertrain lineup.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $28,510, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,799 average.
- It adds a plug-in hybrid option and a Hemi V8 in the four-door Wrangler Unlimited.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger buy because prices have softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a broader powertrain lineup, the 2021 is the better path for shoppers who want the newest options.
