Why it stands out
The 2020 Jeep Cherokee stands out as a compact SUV that blends Jeep’s familiar all-weather capability with a more road-friendly, crossover-style design. By this point in the model’s life, it had already moved far from the boxy Cherokee image of earlier generations, but it still offered the kind of traction and adventure-minded appeal that keeps buyers interested in the nameplate. It also remained a strong value proposition in the used market, with average prices for 2014-2023 Cherokee models ranging from $9,000 to $22,000 at the time of writing.
For 2020, Jeep added new wheels and colors across various trims, including Sangria and Spitfire Orange, and Alexa was added to Uconnect 8.4 systems with navigation. The Cherokee’s broader appeal also came from its available V6, which many drivers liked for its power and smooth handling, along with a comfortable ride and a well-equipped interior. At the same time, it was not without drawbacks: some owners noted a lack of power for quick acceleration and disliked the auto-stop function.

This is a great vehicle. It has every feature that I asked for & more. It will have no issue towing my camper or hauling my kayaks.

I am.... impressed with the 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Specifically, the non-elite version has less fluff and is less likely to need repair amongst the electronics (no panorama roof, no rear tailgate motor, no advanced controls such as advanced cruise control, no heated seats or heated steering wheel & no NAV - etc. It does what it is supposed to do. I am also averaging 28 mpg versus the listed 24 mpg. I also added Falken Wildpeak ATW/3 tires to it (which makes it a better off road vehicle) also. Im pleased as punch with this Cherokee. Its a shame that Stellantis (Chrysler/Jeeps parent company) did not support this line of vehicles for the past 2 years & shut down the Belvidere plant (20 miles away from me) last month. There is zero reason why Stellantis cannot make money on this line of vehicles.

The vehicle is very capable on and off road. Plenty of power to get up to speed on the highway, pass someone, and 4500lb towing capacity. Also it is the only trailhawk in the lineup to have a true rear locker.

The only thing I dont like about the 2020 jeep Cherokee is the power. It lacks the take off power I prefer. But other than that its a beautiful vehicle rides smoothly and is comfortable.

How much does the 2020 Jeep Cherokee cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,232 |
| Year-Round Low | $16,232 |
| Year-Round High | $17,957 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,952 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.58% |
Prices have softened 9.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 5,198 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2020 Jeep Cherokee a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Jeep Cherokee earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers commonly praise its strong performance, comfortable ride, and spacious, well-equipped interior. For you, that makes it a compelling choice if you want a compact SUV with everyday comfort and a more adventure-minded personality. The market also shows 33.8% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Jeep Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback highlights a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with drivers describing the Cherokee as strong on performance and comfortable on the road. The recurring praise for its smooth handling and well-equipped cabin suggests many owners feel confident living with it over time. For used buyers, that kind of satisfaction can reduce long-term ownership risk, especially if you verify maintenance history and condition carefully.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Jeep Cherokee?
At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, since accident history can affect both condition and future resale value. Put inspection priority on body panels, alignment, tires, and any signs of uneven wear or repair work. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, because those details matter more when you’re choosing among similarly priced used SUVs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Jeep Cherokee?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 5,198 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.58% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,232, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $16,232 sits slightly below last year's $17,952.
That price movement suggests the Cherokee has softened enough to help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, condition and mileage will matter a lot, especially because buyers tend to respond well to well-kept examples. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to trade in or list privately.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.58% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $18,364, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $16,232 average.
- It moves to an all-new platform with more technology and usability.
The 2020 is the better value if you want a lower entry price and strong owner satisfaction. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer platform with more tech and usability, the 2021 is the better upgrade path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2020 remains the smarter starting point.
