How much does the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?

Prices have softened 10.81% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,174 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 4.71/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable seating, great features, value for the price, safety features, and spaciousness. The Santa Fe also fits well if you want a practical five-passenger crossover that sits between compact and midsize SUVs, with easy-to-use technology and a comfortable cabin.

The main trade-offs are an underpowered, noisy base engine and a design that may not suit everyone. Even so, the market shows 36.1% of listings as good or great deals, which supports its value appeal.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with repeated praise for comfort, value, and features that make it easy to count on day to day. The expert evaluation also emphasizes strong value and a generous warranty and maintenance package, which helps reinforce the Santa Fe’s long-term ownership appeal.

Hyundai includes free maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which lowers early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been cared for properly, especially if you plan to keep it for many years.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe?

At 74.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair. It also makes sense to focus on how the engine, safety equipment, and cabin electronics feel in real-world use, since those are the areas that most affect ownership satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: SE, SEL, and Limited are the main trims, and the base SE misses blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning. The Limited adds more upscale equipment and is the best fit if you want the most complete feature set.
• Powertrain: The standard 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder is the weaker choice, while the 2.0T brings 235 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. If you drive at altitude or want stronger passing power, the turbo engine is the better pick.
• Safety package: Every Santa Fe includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are not on SE, while SEL adds them and Limited adds Blind-Spot View Monitor.
• Infotainment: Every Santa Fe has Bluetooth plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SEL adds SiriusXM and Blue Link connected services, while Limited upgrades to an 8-inch display, navigation, surround-view camera, wireless charging, and a 12-speaker Infinity audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0T front-drive model is rated at 23 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 22.1 mpg.

Which 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it leaves out blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning. It makes sense only if you want the lowest starting price and can live with the leanest feature set.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim because it adds blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and available Convenience Package content while keeping the Santa Fe’s core strengths intact.
• Limited: This is the right choice if you want the most upscale Santa Fe, with the larger 8-inch display, navigation, surround-view camera, wireless charging, 12-speaker Infinity audio, and Blind-Spot View Monitor.

The safety-package gap on SE is the key trim-level note to keep in mind.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,174 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.81% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,563, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?

The current average of $16,563 sits slightly below last year's $18,570.

That price movement suggests the Santa Fe has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A lower entry cost can make it easier to hold value over your ownership period, especially if you choose a well-equipped trim and keep the vehicle in clean condition.

Strong market demand also matters, and this model’s combination of value, comfort, and safety helps keep it relevant with used shoppers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Santa Fe includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. SEL adds blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and safe exit assist, while Limited adds Blind-Spot View Monitor.

The main safety caveat is that blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are not standard on SE, so you should verify the trim and equipment list carefully.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 is the only Santa Fe in the lineup, giving you a five-passenger crossover with strong value, easy-to-use tech, and a standard rear-seat reminder.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $14,852, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $16,563 average.
• It offers a practical middle ground between compact and midsize SUVs.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,445, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $16,563 average.
• It adds a substantial update with new styling, controls, displays, engines, technology, safety systems, and a Calligraphy trim.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and safety, the 2020 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer update and can pay more for it.
