How much does the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?

Prices have softened 11.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,255 listings available, which gives you a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable seating, great features, and value for the price, along with its safety features and spaciousness. The trade-offs are the underpowered, noisy engine and the lack of some amenities that some shoppers expect.

That fits the Santa Fe’s role as a five-passenger crossover that sits between compact and midsize SUVs: you get practicality and comfort without moving up to a larger three-row vehicle. With 36.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle people feel good about living with over time, especially because it is described as comfortable, feature-rich, and good value. The expert evaluation also emphasizes its strong value equation and generous ownership coverage, including free maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.

That combination suggests the Santa Fe should be a reassuring used buy if you prioritize everyday dependability and low ownership friction. As always, a clean service history matters most when you’re trying to reduce long-term risk.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the engine, electronics, and any signs of uneven wear or prior bodywork. Pay close attention to whether the features you want are actually present on the specific trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: SE, SEL, and Limited are the trim levels named for this model year. The base SE misses blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning, while SEL adds those features and also brings safe exit assist; Limited adds a Blind-Spot View Monitor and more upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: The standard 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder is the base engine, while 2.0T versions use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 235 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The turbo engine is the stronger choice, especially if you want better passing power or live at altitude.
• Safety package: Every Santa Fe includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. SEL adds blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and safe exit assist, while the SEL Convenience Package adds an ultrasonic occupant alert system tied to Blue Link.
• Infotainment: Every Santa Fe has Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. SEL adds SiriusXM and Blue Link connected services, while Limited upgrades to an 8-inch display, navigation, a surround-view camera, wireless smartphone charging, and a 12-speaker Infinity audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged front-drive model is rated at 23 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 22.1 mpg.

Which 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it leaves out blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning. It makes sense only if you want the lowest price and are comfortable with the most basic equipment.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim because it adds blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, safe exit assist, SiriusXM, and Blue Link connected services. If you want the strongest mix of safety and convenience, this is the one to target.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the larger 8-inch display, navigation, surround-view camera, wireless charging, 12-speaker Infinity audio, head-up display, and Blind-Spot View Monitor. It suits you if you want the most upscale Santa Fe experience.

The safety-package gap to remember is that blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are not on SE.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,255 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,361, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?

The current average of $16,361 sits slightly below last year's $18,383.

That price movement suggests the Santa Fe has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the current market average or below it, you reduce the chance of taking an outsized hit later.

The model’s strong value reputation also helps support demand in the used market. Buyers tend to respond well to vehicles that combine comfort, safety, and useful features, which can make resale easier when it’s time to move on.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Santa Fe comes with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. SEL trim adds blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and safe exit assist, while the Limited trim adds a Blind-Spot View Monitor that shows a live camera feed of the blind spots.

The main safety caveat is that the SE trim does not include blind-spot warning or rear cross-traffic warning, so you need to move up to SEL if those matter to you.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is the only Santa Fe in the lineup for this year, giving you a five-passenger crossover with broad appeal.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $14,787, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $16,361 average.
• It offers a value-focused middle ground between compact and midsize SUVs.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,274, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $16,361 average.
• It adds a substantial update with new styling, controls, displays, engines, technology, and safety systems.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and everyday usefulness, the 2020 is the smart default. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 is the better path if you want the newer update and are willing to pay more.
