How much does the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?

Prices have softened 10.80% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,246 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy range of choices.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.7/5 user-rated SUV with an 8.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable seating, great features, and strong value for the price. They also like its safety features and spaciousness, which fit the Santa Fe’s role as a practical five-passenger crossover. The main trade-offs are the underpowered, noisy base engine and the fact that some shoppers may want more amenities.

That makes it a strong fit if you want a well-equipped, comfortable SUV that sits between compact and midsize crossovers without stepping up to a larger three-row model. With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with comfort and value helping reinforce confidence over time. The expert drive notes also describe it as a good daily driver with a smooth ride, decent handling, and refined controls. Hyundai’s three years of free maintenance and long warranty coverage add another ownership advantage.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the base engine’s weaker performance may be more noticeable as mileage adds up, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are common but not guaranteed. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the engine, brakes, electronics, and signs of uneven wear. It also helps to compare trim equipment closely, since some safety and convenience features are not standard on every version.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SEL, and Limited trims differ meaningfully, and the base version leaves out blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning. The Limited adds more upscale equipment and is the best fit if you want the most complete feature set.
• Powertrain: The standard 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder is the one you want to avoid if you care about stronger acceleration. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in 2.0T models delivers 235 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, and it’s the better choice for altitude or more confident passing power.
• Safety package: Every Santa Fe includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are not on SE, while SEL adds them along with safe exit assist. The SEL Convenience Package adds an ultrasonic occupant alert system, and Limited adds Blind-Spot View Monitor.
• Infotainment: Every Santa Fe gets Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. SEL adds SiriusXM and Blue Link connected services, while Limited upgrades to an 8-inch display, navigation, surround-view camera, wireless smartphone charging, and a 12-speaker Infinity audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0T front-drive model is rated at 23 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 22.1 mpg.

Which 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it’s also the trim where you give up blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning. It makes sense only if you’re focused on the lowest purchase price and are comfortable with the most basic equipment.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the missing blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warnings, plus safe exit assist and available convenience upgrades. If you want the strongest balance of price, safety, and features, this is the one to target.
• Limited: This is the most upscale choice, with the larger 8-inch display, navigation, surround-view camera, wireless charging, and premium audio. It suits you best if you want the most complete tech and comfort package.

Safety-package note: the SEL is the first trim to add blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning, while the Limited adds Blind-Spot View Monitor.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,246 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.80% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,425, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?

The current average of $16,425 sits slightly below last year's $18,415.

That decline suggests the Santa Fe has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you’re buying now and planning to sell later. A lower entry price can also make it easier to keep your ownership costs in check over time. If the market stays steady, a well-kept example should remain appealing to value-focused shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Santa Fe comes standard with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are not standard on SE, but they are included on SEL. The SEL Convenience Package adds an ultrasonic occupant alert system, and Limited adds Blind-Spot View Monitor.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the only Santa Fe in the lineup, giving you a five-passenger crossover with broad appeal and useful tech updates.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $14,801, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $16,425 average.
• It offers a value-focused middle ground between compact and midsize SUVs.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,260, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $16,425 average.
• It brings a substantial update with new styling, controls, displays, engines, technology, and safety systems.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and features, the 2020 is the sweet spot. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 is the better pick if you want the newer update and can spend more.
