FAQs
The Hyundai Nexo is one of a few hydrogen-powered vehicles on the market, along with the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell and Toyota Mirai. Hyundai released this crossover last year to select California markets, and for 2020, it gets just light changes.
Unlike its sedan competitors, the Nexo takes the form of a compact crossover and is offered in Blue and Limited trims. The Blue comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lighting, keyless access and start, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, an 8-way power driver’s seat, a 6-way power passenger seat, heated front seats, a 60/40 split-folding rear seatback, USB connectivity, Qi wireless charging, and a 7-inch LCD instrument cluster. Automatic front windows, a rear cargo cover, and rear privacy glass are newly standard for 2020.
The Limited has even more content: 19-inch alloy wheels, remote start, a power liftgate, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, a 440-watt Krell 8-speaker audio system, and navigation.
The Nexo houses a single electric motor that produces 161 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque, along with a single-speed gearbox. Refueling takes as few as 5 minutes, which is comparable to a gasoline-powered vehicle. The Blue grade achieves 65 city miles-per-gallon equivalent, 58 highway, and 61 combined, along with 380 miles of range. The Limited does a bit worse at 59, 54, and 57, plus a 354-mile range.
As far as safety, the Blue gets forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-follow assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, automatic high beams, a driver-attention monitor, and lane-departure warning. The Limited tacks on a blind-spot monitor, rain-sensing wipers, and a parking assistant. The Nexo has not been crash-tested by any major agency, but that’s not surprising for a low-volume car like this.
