With the push for fuel-efficient vehicles, automakers are bringing to market new EVs and other alternative-fuel vehicles. One such alt-fuel car is the 2021 Hyundai Nexo. It is a hydrogen fuel-cell cell vehicle, or FCV. The Nexo was introduced in 2019 as a midsize crossover with futuristic styling. The Nexo has been carried over to the 2021 model year with no changes. The hatchback layout provides up to 56.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 29.6 cubic feet with them up.

The Nexo uses hydrogen fuel cells to provide electric charge, with a secondary lithium-ion battery pack for added flexibility. An electric motor that sends 161 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels.

Though the powertrain is shared, the Nexo’s efficiency varies based on the trim selected. The Blue trim returns 65 MPGe city, 58 MPGe highway, and 61 MPGe combined. The Nexo Limited returns 59 MPGe city, 54 MPGe highway, and 57 MPGe combined. The Blue has a range of 380 miles while the Limited has a range of 354 miles.

As mentioned, trims for the Nexo are Blue and Limited. The entry-level Blue comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, automatic climate control, wireless device charging, and a fully digital instrument panel. The Blue also comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Limited trim adds 19-inch alloy wheels, integrated roof rails, and a hands-free power liftgate. The Limited also comes with ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 440-watt, eight-speaker Krell premium audio system.

The Nexo provides a host of standard driver-assistance features, including forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, lane-follow assist, and blind-spot monitoring. The Limited trim adds a Blind-Spot View Monitor, surround-view monitor, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.

The 2021 Hyundai Nexo has a base MSRP of $58,935. The Limited trim starts at $62,385. The Nexo is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty for the powertrain and battery components.
