The 2023 Hyundai Nexo is a fuel-cell car, powered by hydrogen. Its forward-thinking powertrain is packaged into an attractive small crossover with a versatile cabin.

What’s New for the 2023 Hyundai Nexo

The Hyundai Nexo was introduced in 2018 as a 2019-model-year vehicle. It carries over into 2023 with minimal changes from the 2022 model.

Design

The Nexo is available in Blue and Limited trims. The Nexo Blue features 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and power-folding, heated side mirrors. Moving up to the Limited adds 19-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and a power sunroof.

Powertrain

The Hyundai's fuel-cell powertrain combines an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery pack, and a hydrogen-powered generator. The electric motor routes 161 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels (FWD).

EPA estimates for the Hyundai Nexo Blue are 65 mpg city, 58 highway, and 61 combined. The Nexo Limited returns 59 mpg city, 54 highway, and 57 combined. The Nexo Blue has a driving range of 380 miles, while the Limited’s range is 354 miles. The fuel infrastructure for hydrogen cars is mainly concentrated around California, which is the only state where the Nexo is sold.

Interior

With the rear seats folded, the Nexo provides 56.5 cubic feet of cargo space. With those seats in use, it provides 26.9 cubic feet of cargo space. The Limited trim comes with a hands-free power lift gate.

Standard equipment on the Nexo Blue includes synthetic leather upholstery, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It also comes standard with a push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wall-style 115-volt power outlet, and three USB ports. Moving up to the Limited adds a heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats.

Technology

The 2023 Nexo comes standard with a fully digital instrument panel, a wireless charging pad, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It features navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Limited trim adds an eight-speaker Krell premium audio system.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the Nexo includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-following assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. It also comes standard with driver-attention monitoring and front and rear parking sensors. The Limited trim adds rain-sensing wipers, a 360-degree parking camera system, a blind-spot camera system, and Hyundai’s Smart Park remote parking feature.

Pricing

At the time of this writing, the 2023 Hyundai Nexo has a base MSRP of $60,135 for the Blue trim. The Limited trim has a starting MSRP of $63,585. The Hyundai Nexo is backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
