How much does the 2020 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 7.59% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,543 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Pilot earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, responsive handling, comfort, and fuel efficiency. The Pilot also stands out for its everyday usefulness, with tons of cargo space and an adult-friendly third row.

The trade-offs are its unintuitive technology and interior materials that can feel cheap. It also isn’t the best choice if towing is a priority.

For families who want practicality and peace of mind in one package, the Pilot fits the bill well. 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as dependable for daily use, with strong satisfaction around comfort, performance, and fuel efficiency. The feedback also points to a vehicle people feel good about living with over time, especially when space and usability matter most.

The Pilot’s refined, comfortable driving character supports that impression, and its standard safety equipment adds to the sense of confidence. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure a specific example has been maintained well and hasn’t been worked harder than its family-hauler role suggests.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Pilot?

At 69.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and interior condition. Because this model is often bought as a family SUV, it’s smart to focus on signs of heavy daily use, wear in the cabin, and whether the features you want still work properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most basic version, while the EX adds remote start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, LED fog lights, Smart Entry, tri-zone climate control, a 10-way power driver’s seat, and heated front seats. The EX-L adds leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a power moonroof, second-row in-door sunshades, and a 4-way power front passenger’s seat. Touring, Elite, and Black Edition trims add more luxury and convenience features, with the Black Edition carrying nearly the same content as the Elite.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. LX, EX, and EX-L trims use a 6-speed automatic, while Touring, Elite, and Black Edition models use a 9-speed automatic that provides more refined acceleration and should help fuel economy.
• Safety package: HondaSensing is standard and includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control are also standard. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and parking sensors are optional.
• Infotainment: The LX gets a 5-inch color LCD screen, Bluetooth, and a USB port. All other trims use an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. HD Radio, SiriusXM, and Cabin Control Remote Capability are included on all but the LX, while navigation and rear-seat entertainment are optional on EX-L and standard on Touring, Elite, and Black Edition.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient setup is the FWD 9-speed configuration at 20 mpg city, 27 highway, and 23 combined. AWD versions of that setup return 19 mpg city, 27 highway, and 22 combined. The 6-speed FWD setup returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined, while the 6-speed AWD version returns 18 mpg city, 26 highway, and 21 combined.

Which 2020 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Pilot is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite, and Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it’s the most stripped-down version, with the smaller 5-inch screen and fewer convenience and connectivity features than the higher trims.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the most important everyday upgrades, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, remote start, heated front seats, and tri-zone climate control.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale family SUV, since it adds leather, a power liftgate, a moonroof, and more passenger comfort features.
• Touring: This trim makes sense if you want more luxury and tech, including the upgraded audio system, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, and the more refined 9-speed automatic.
• Elite: This is the premium choice for shoppers who want the most comfort features, including a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and the 9-speed powertrain.
• Black Edition: Pick this if you want the Elite’s equipment with a darker appearance package and unique styling details.

HondaSensing is standard across the lineup, so you get the core safety package no matter which trim you choose.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Pilot?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,543 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.59% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,330, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $22,331 sits slightly below last year's $24,165.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if pricing stays soft. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

The Pilot’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, especially among shoppers who prioritize space, comfort, and safety. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot safe?

The Honda Pilot earns a five-star overall crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the best crash test score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

HondaSensing is standard and includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control are also standard.

Optional safety equipment includes front and rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The main caveat is that some useful driver-assistance features are not standard, so you may need to shop a higher-spec example if you want the fullest safety setup.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.59% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers strong family usefulness, with tons of cargo space, an adult-friendly third row, and standard safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,042, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,331 average.
• It emphasizes interior comfort, powertrain, and straightforward technology more strongly.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the secondary path for buyers who want to compare against a slightly pricier alternative.
