How much does the 2020 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 7.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,565 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Pilot earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, responsive handling, and overall comfort. They also highlight its performance and fuel efficiency, while the roomy cabin stands out as a recurring strength.

The trade-offs are familiar: Honda’s driver controls and in-car tech are among the biggest shortcomings, and the interior materials can feel cheap. Even so, the Pilot fits well if you want a practical three-row SUV with everyday usefulness, especially for family duty.

With 36.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as dependable, with strong satisfaction around comfort, performance, and fuel efficiency. The recurring praise for its spacious interior and responsive handling also points to a vehicle that many buyers feel good about living with over time.

The V6 powertrain is described as stout and well suited to real-world driving, which supports confidence in everyday use. Honda also emphasizes a refined, comfortable ride that is built for commuting and road trips.

If you plan to keep one long term, the main ownership risk is that city fuel use and towing ability may not match your expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Pilot?

At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and controls show the kind of wear that can hint at harder use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most basic version, while the EX adds remote start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, LED fog lights, Smart Entry, tri-zone climate control, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and heated front seats. The EX-L adds leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a power moonroof, second-row in-door sunshades, and a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat. Touring adds 20-inch alloy wheels, integrated roof rails, blue ambient interior lighting, an upgraded stereo, and courtesy approach lights. Elite adds power-folding side mirrors with integrated turn signals, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and heated and ventilated front seats. Black Edition brings unique black-painted wheels and black exterior accents with nearly the same content as Elite.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. LX, EX, and EX-L use a 6-speed automatic, while Touring, Elite, and Black Edition use a 9-speed automatic that provides more refined acceleration and should help fuel economy.
• Safety package: HondaSensing is standard and includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control are also standard. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and parking sensors are optional.
• Infotainment: LX gets a 5-inch color LCD screen, Bluetooth, and a USB port. All other trims use an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. HD Radio, SiriusXM, and Cabin Control Remote Capability are included on all but LX. Navigation, rear-seat entertainment, and a wall-style power outlet are optional on EX-L and standard on Touring, Elite, and Black Edition.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient setup is FWD with the 9-speed automatic at 20 mpg city, 27 highway, 23 combined. AWD with the 9-speed returns 19 mpg city, 27 highway, 22 combined. The 6-speed FWD setup returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined, while the 6-speed AWD setup returns 18 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined.

Which 2020 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Pilot is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite, and Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the least expensive way into the Pilot, but it is also the most stripped-down. You get the basics, including the standard safety suite, but the smaller 5-inch screen and simpler equipment make it the least appealing choice if you want modern convenience.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds remote start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, LED fog lights, Smart Entry, tri-zone climate control, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat, giving you the biggest jump in everyday usability.
• EX-L: This trim is the sweet spot if you want more comfort and family-friendly convenience. Leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a power moonroof, and second-row sunshades make it feel more upscale without jumping too far in price.
• Touring: Choose this if you want the stronger-feeling 9-speed automatic, plus more premium features like the upgraded stereo, roof rails, ambient lighting, and standard navigation and rear-seat entertainment.
• Elite: This is the most luxurious mainstream version, with a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and power-folding mirrors. It makes sense if you want the richest feature set short of the special edition.
• Black Edition: This is the style-focused top trim, with blacked-out exterior details and unique wheels. It is best if you want the most distinctive look and are comfortable paying for near-elite equipment.

HondaSensing is standard across the lineup, so even the lower trims start with a strong safety foundation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Pilot?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,565 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,151, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $22,151 sits slightly below last year's $23,967.

That softer pricing means the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also suggests you should expect resale to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim rather than broad market momentum.

Well-equipped trims with stronger feature content should be easier to position later, especially if they have clean history and good maintenance records. If you buy carefully now, you can reduce the chance of taking an outsized hit when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2020 Honda Pilot earns a five-star overall crash test rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

HondaSensing is standard, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control are also standard.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and parking sensors are optional, so you may want to prioritize a higher trim or a well-equipped example if those features matter to you.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds the Black Edition trim and keeps the Pilot’s strong standard safety and family-friendly practicality.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,868, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,151 average.
• It emphasizes interior, powertrain, driving dynamics, and simple but useful technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative, but the 2020 already delivers the core Pilot strengths that matter most for family use.
