How much does the 2020 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 6.41% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,769 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and body styles.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Civic earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10. Owners repeatedly praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and fun driving experience, and they also like the stylish design and safety advancements. The main trade-offs are outdated technology and a desire for more power and more USB ports. For you, that means the Civic makes the most sense if you want a compact car that feels polished, practical, and easy to live with. Good and great deals account for 33.7% of listings, so there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a reliable and affordable choice, with language that emphasizes a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience. The expert review reinforces that impression by describing the Civic’s value and longevity as hallmarks of the model. If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is making sure prior maintenance and wear match the car’s mileage and asking price.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic?

At 51.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had body damage or multiple owners. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim level you’re considering. If you’re comparing several listings, the cleanest example is often worth paying a little more for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic comes in three body styles—sedan, coupe, and 4-door hatchback—and the base LX is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more convenience and style features.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder with 158 horsepower on the base LX and Sport, plus a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 with 174 horsepower on EX and above; the hatchback Sport and Sport Touring make 180 horsepower.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on Si models and available across the lineup, with the Type R not tested by IIHS.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard on all models except the base LX, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Top trims add Garmin-based navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The base LX sedan is rated at 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, while most CVT-equipped Civic models reach at least 30 mpg city and as high as 42 mpg highway.

Which 2020 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Civic is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with the most basic equipment.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more style and flexibility while keeping the Civic’s core strengths intact.
• EX: Choose this if you want the turbocharged engine and more comfort-oriented equipment, especially if you plan to keep the car for a while.

Honda Sensing is standard on Si models and available across the lineup, while the Type R was not tested by IIHS.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,769 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.41% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 51.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,328, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $18,353 sits slightly below last year's $19,610.

That decline suggests the Civic has become a little more buyer-friendly in the used market, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it means pricing discipline matters: buyers have more options, so condition and trim will play a bigger role in how quickly your car moves. The Civic’s broad appeal and strong reputation should still support demand, especially for cleaner examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic safe?

The 2020 Honda Civic earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in all NHTSA categories except the coupe, which earns a four-star passenger frontal crash rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts. Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Honda also improved the optional LED headlights enough to help secure the IIHS result for all body styles except the Type R, which wasn’t tested. The main caveat is that the coupe’s passenger frontal crash rating is lower than the rest of the lineup.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Minor design tweaks, more standard safety and convenience features, and more manual transmissions are the standout changes for this year.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $17,143, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $18,353 average.
• It keeps the Civic’s winning formula of style, value, and performance with only minor tweaks.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,106, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $18,353 average.
• It adds low-rate financing and lease deals as Honda prepares to retire the generation.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the sweet spot if you want the best mix of price, features, and broad availability. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money while staying close in character. If you want the newest version of this generation and don’t mind paying more, the 2021 is worth a look.
