How much does the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback cost?

There are 938 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its sporty handling, stylish design, and impressive fuel efficiency. They also call out improved features and better sound insulation, which helps the car feel more polished than earlier versions.

The main trade-off is outdated technology, and the expert review also points to a cabin that still leans on hard plastic in places. Even so, the Civic Hatchback fits you well if you want a used hatchback that feels engaging to drive and still looks sharp.

With 34.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, there is enough market activity to give you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its improved refinement and the kind of ownership experience people feel good about over time. The expert review also describes the hatchback as quiet, refined, and well mannered, which supports the impression that it is easy to live with.

Honda also includes maintenance-friendly ownership touches in the broader package, and the car’s standard equipment helps it feel like a sensible long-term choice. For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about making sure the specific car you choose has been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback?

At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment works as expected, since the model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been kept.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: LX is the most basic version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment. The Sport Touring stands out with stitched leather on the steering wheel, soft surfaces, quality materials, and a premium audio setup, but the base trim is where you are most likely to feel the technology gap.
• Powertrain: The hatchback uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder. LX, EX, and EX-L make 174 horsepower, while Sport and Sport Touring make 180 horsepower. The CVT and 6-speed manual each bring different torque figures, and the car is described as quiet, refined, and well mannered.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. CVT-equipped versions also add low-speed following capability. There is no blind-spot monitoring or rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: In all but LX trim, you get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and a volume knob. Sport Touring adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, text-messaging support, navigation, a quick-charging USB port, and a 12-speaker premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the test car returned 32 mpg in combined driving, and the same review notes 32.7 mpg on its testing loop.

Which 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the hatchback. It gets the core Civic Hatchback formula, but you give up some of the nicer cabin and tech touches found higher up the range.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it keeps the car’s stylish look while adding more of the personality that makes the hatchback appealing. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to focus on.
• EX: Choose this if you want a more comfort-oriented step up without jumping all the way to the top trim. It adds more equipment than the lower trims and suits you if you care about daily livability.
• EX-L: This is the trim to target if you want the most upscale feel short of the Sport Touring setup described in the review. It is the right pick if you value a more premium ownership experience over keeping the budget tight.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but the system is described as aging, and the car does not offer blind-spot monitoring or rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 938 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.21% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,431, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $19,563 sits slightly below last year's $20,639.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you should be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback safe?

The 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback did not earn a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety because of a Poor performance in the headlight category.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. CVT-equipped versions also add low-speed following capability.

A key caveat is that the safety tech is described as aging, with lane-keeping assist lacking refinement and adaptive cruise control braking for no apparent reason during testing. The car also lacks blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, relying instead on LaneWatch for the right-side blind spot only.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 refresh brings revised styling, added sound insulation, and improved feature packaging.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of style, driving enjoyment, and current market value, the 2020 is a strong place to start. If you are more price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing a specific model year alone.
