How much does the 2020 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 5.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,715 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Civic earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and fun driving experience. They also highlight the tech features, safety advancements, and stylish design. The main trade-offs are that some drivers want more power and more USB ports.

That lines up with the Civic’s role as a practical compact car that still feels more upscale than its price suggests. Even with its outdated technology, it remains a strong fit if you want value, longevity, and multiple body styles or powertrain choices.

With 31.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a reliable, affordable choice that feels well-liked for everyday use. That kind of language matters because it suggests the Civic is the sort of car you can count on over time, not just one that looks good on paper.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the powertrains as smooth and flawless, with responsive behavior from both the manual and CVT setups. Honda also positions the Civic as a value-focused car with longevity baked in, which supports confidence for used buyers.

For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is less about core dependability and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic?

At 53.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because the Civic is widely available, you can afford to be selective and walk away from examples with questionable condition or incomplete records.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic comes in three body styles—sedan, coupe, and 4-door hatchback—and the 2020 updates include minor design tweaks plus more standard safety and convenience features. Base-trim shoppers should pay attention to the technology gap, since the infotainment system is outdated and the 7-inch touchscreen is not standard on the base LX.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder with 158 horsepower and a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 with 174 hp, while hatchback Sport and Sport Touring models make 180 hp. The 1.5-liter engine is the better pick if you want stronger mid-range acceleration and responsiveness.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on Si models and other Civic trims, while the Type R was not tested.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard on all models except the base LX, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is dated and slower than newer Honda setups, so this is a key area to evaluate if connectivity matters to you.
• Fuel efficiency: The Si is rated at 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined, while the base LX sedan is rated at 25 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. Most CVT-equipped Civic models reach at least 30 mpg city and as high as 42 mpg highway.

Which 2020 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Civic is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and basic Civic value. It gets the 2.0-liter engine and standard manual transmission on sedans, but you should expect the biggest technology compromises.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while keeping the Civic’s core value proposition intact. It also pairs well with the Civic’s stronger style and broader feature set without pushing you into the pricier upper trims.
• EX: This is the better choice if you want the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and more everyday refinement. It suits you best if you care more about stronger acceleration and a more upscale feel than about minimizing purchase price.

Honda Sensing is standard on Si models and other Civic trims, and it includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,715 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.55% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,328, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $18,722 sits slightly below last year's $19,823.

That price movement suggests the Civic has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number. A softer market today can also mean less upside if you overpay, so condition and purchase price matter more than ever.

Because the Civic still has broad appeal, a clean example with strong equipment and a good history should remain easier to resell than a neglected one. The model’s reputation for value and longevity also helps support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic safe?

The 2020 Honda Civic earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in all NHTSA categories except a four-star passenger frontal crash rating on the coupe.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing comes with forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Honda also improved the optional LED headlights, which helped secure the IIHS recognition for all body styles except the Type R, which wasn’t tested.

The one caveat to keep in mind is the coupe’s four-star passenger frontal crash rating from NHTSA. If safety is your top priority, that makes body style and equipment selection worth checking carefully.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Minor design tweaks and more standard safety and convenience features help keep it fresh.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $17,454, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $18,722 average.
• It offers the same broad Civic formula with minor updates and strong variety.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,346, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $18,722 average.
• It’s the outgoing generation before a full redesign, which may appeal if you want the last version of a proven formula.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right pick if you want a well-rounded Civic with strong value, broad availability, and updated safety features. If your priority is saving money, the 2019 is the better bargain; if you want the last year of this generation, the 2021 is worth a look, but you’ll pay more for it.
