2020 Genesis G90 test drive
overall
A mansion-size luxury sedan on a ranch budget.
The Genesis G90 exists for a very small number of car buyers. The Korean-made flagship of the Hyundai Motor Group is a satisfying car to drive, yet it has no direct competitor. No one who can afford a full-size luxury sedan suffers from sticker shock, and next to a brand-new Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Lexus, or Jaguar, there is no compelling reason to pay less for a Genesis. But against 2- or 3-year-old luxury sedans, a brand-new G90 can make lots of sense—if you're willing to forgo the high-tech features, performance, and cachet of established brands. Even without the discount price, the G90 is an exceptional vehicle on its own. For 2020, it's changing the entire face of Genesis.

The Genesis g90 is a fairly loaded car and is very beautiful. The right quality is outstanding and the car is very spacious, particularly for tall people. The car has autonomous driving but it is not good going around corners.

2020 Genesis G90 Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2020 Genesis G90 prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsIs the 2020 Genesis G90 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Genesis G90 earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its luxurious appearance, advanced technology, and outstanding performance, and they also value the strong money-for-the-car proposition versus rivals like BMW, Mercedes, and Audi. The expert review adds that it is spacious and a satisfying car to drive, which fits a full-size luxury sedan aimed at buyers who want presence and comfort without established-brand pricing. The trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and outdated technology, so you should expect more emphasis on comfort and value than on cutting-edge dynamics or features. Even so, the G90 makes the most sense if you want a roomy luxury sedan and are willing to give up some cachet and high-tech polish. Good and great deals account for 28.6% of listings, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2020 Genesis G90 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The user feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with owners describing the car as something they can count on over the long term. The expert review reinforces that impression by noting Hyundai-shared parts and the absence of air springs, which reduces one common luxury-car worry. It also includes 3 years of scheduled maintenance, with dealer pickup and drop-off included, which helps lower early ownership hassle. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about whether a neglected example has been maintained properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Genesis G90?
At 65.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially on bodywork, electronics, and any signs of prior repair quality. Because this is a luxury sedan with a lot of standard equipment, you should also confirm that every comfort, safety, and driver-assistance feature works as intended. Pay close attention to overall condition, since the value proposition is strongest when the car has been well kept.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 3.3T RWD is the lower-priced entry point, while the 5.0 RWD adds the V8 and rear-seat screens in the higher trim. The base setup already includes a strong list of standard safety and convenience features, so the main gap is more about engine choice and rear-seat amenities than core equipment.
- Powertrain: Two engines are available with rear- or all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The twin-turbo V6 is the better all-around choice, with 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, while the 5.0-liter V8 makes 420 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque but uses more fuel.
- Safety package: Highway Driving Assist comes standard, along with forward and reverse emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beams, a driver attention monitor, Safe Exit Assist, and 360-degree cameras. There are no trim-level safety gaps called out in the data.
- Infotainment: The G90 uses a unique Genesis infotainment interface with a tiled home screen, customizable first screen, and swipe-and-pinch controls. The data does not specify a screen size or wireless smartphone integration, but it does note 3 years of SiriusXM with live traffic and weather, plus 3 years of map updates and telematics.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 AWD configuration is EPA-estimated at 17 mpg city, 25 highway, and 20 combined, and the same figures apply to RWD. The V8 AWD returns 15/23/18, while the RWD V8 is rated at 16/24/19.
Which 2020 Genesis G90 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Genesis G90 is offered in 2 trim levels: 3.3T RWD and 5.0 RWD.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The 3.3T RWD gives you the core G90 experience at the lower price, but you give up the V8 and the rear-seat screen setup found in the higher trim.
- Premium/top trim: The 5.0 RWD is the more indulgent choice if you want the V8 and the added rear-seat entertainment features, but it costs more and uses more fuel.
The safety package note is simple: Highway Driving Assist and the rest of the driver-assistance suite come standard across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Genesis G90?
This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you should shop carefully and compare condition closely.
- Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 63 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 65.1% of listings are accident-free.
Is the 2020 Genesis G90 safe?
The 2020 Genesis G90 earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation. It has not been rated by NHTSA.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes forward and reverse emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beams, a driver attention monitor, Safe Exit Assist, and 360-degree cameras. Safe Exit Assist is a useful extra touch because it can keep the rear doors locked if the blind-spot radar detects an approaching vehicle. The main caveat is that the G90’s NHTSA crash-test record is absent, so you should lean more heavily on the IIHS result and the standard driver-assistance equipment when evaluating safety.
Should I buy a 2020 Genesis G90 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It brings a major redesign that changes the face of Genesis.
Consider the 2021 if:
- It builds on the G90’s flagship presence with a broader market message and stronger brand maturity.
The bottom line: The 2020 G90 is the right pick if you want the strongest value story and can live with its older-tech feel. If you’re shopping primarily on price and condition, this year deserves a close look; if you want the newest expression of the model, the next year is the safer comparison point.
