The Ford Transit is a series of full-size passenger vans, similar to the Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana, and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The Transit Crew is a half-step between a passenger and panel van, with seating for 5 people and a fully boxed cargo area behind that. For 2020, it gets a refresh and a slew of important updates.

Ford offers the Transit Crew in several body styles, with low, medium, and high roof options, and regular, long, and extended-length cargo areas. All of them share a new front fascia, a sliding side door, and fixed-glass rear windows. Cargo length measures between 86.7 and 132.8 inches, while cargo height is between 54.2 and 77.4. The Transit Crew even offers 54.8 inches of width between the wheel wells.

The standard Transit Crew comes with a new 3.5-liter V6 engine good for 275 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The optional twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with 310 hp and 400 lb-ft carries over from last year. Both engines bolt up to a new 10-speed automatic transmission with an auxiliary transmission oil cooler, for better fuel economy. Also, while rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, 2020 marks the addition of a new all-wheel-drive (AWD) option. The AWD system can send up to 100 percent of the available torque to the front axle. Beyond that, options like an extended-range fuel tank, an engine block heater, a trailer brake controller, and a heavy-duty towing package let you customize the Transit Crew for your specific needs.

Standard features on the Transit Crew include running boards, 16-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, air conditioning, a center console, cargo tie-down hooks, a 4.0-inch radio system, and 12-volt powerpoints. You can add power-adjustable and heated outside mirrors, carpet, upfitter switches, an upfitter interface module, an infotainment system, a dual-note horn, an auxiliary heater, keyless entry, power front seats, an 8.0-inch infotainment system, navigation, Bluetooth, and satellite radio.

For 2020, Ford adds standard driver-assistance features to the Transit Crew. These include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, post-collision braking, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beams. Airbags and an airbag-cutoff switch are also standard. Forward and reversing cameras, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and trailer coverage, front and rear proximity sensors, side sensors, a parking aid, and adaptive cruise control are optional.
