How much does the 2020 Ford Transit Cargo cost?

Prices have softened 8.35% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,986 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability for shoppers comparing configurations.

Is the 2020 Ford Transit Cargo a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.6/5 from owners and a 7.67/10 from experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, solid build quality, and good fuel mileage, and many say it is easy to drive, especially in tight city settings. The Transit Cargo is also presented as a versatile blank canvas for different equipment setups, which makes it a strong fit if you need a van tailored to a specific job. On the trade-off side, the expert review points to fairly pedestrian performance and notes that advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup.

For businesses that want a work van with multiple body styles, multiple powertrain options, and a comfortable driving experience, this model year fits the brief well. It also shows a healthy 27.7% share of good or great deals, which helps if you are shopping with value in mind.

Is the 2020 Ford Transit Cargo reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights a solid build and a trouble-free, dependable feel, along with the kind of spaciousness and easy drivability that helps a work van earn trust over time. The expert review also emphasizes that the Transit is manageable to drive and stable in corners, which supports confidence in daily use. Ford’s telematics system adds maintenance alerts and vehicle diagnostics, which can help you stay ahead of service needs.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the van’s basic usefulness and more about how hard a commercial vehicle may have been worked before you buy it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Transit Cargo?

At 67.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van was used for fleet or contractor duty. Focus on body condition, signs of heavy wear, and whether the equipment setup matches the kind of work you plan to do. Because these vans are often configured in many different ways, it is worth checking that the trim and options align with your needs rather than assuming a listing is similarly equipped to another Transit Cargo.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Transit is offered in cargo, passenger, and crew body styles, and standard equipment is sparse, with 16-inch steel wheels, power-adjustable side mirrors, power locks and windows, manually adjusting front seats, air conditioning, and a basic AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth, dual USB ports, and a 4.0-inch display. Higher-equipped versions can add heated seats, a touchscreen infotainment system, remote keyless entry, and remote start.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 3.5-liter V6 with 275 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. An optional 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 makes 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring, front-and-rear parking sensors, cross-traffic alert, and a front/rear split-view camera system are newly optional. Advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup.
• Infotainment: The available SYNC 3 system uses an 8.0-inch touchscreen and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The van also comes standard with FordPass Connect and a 4G WiFi modem.
• Fuel efficiency: The Transit Cargo does not have EPA fuel-economy estimates, but the Transit Passenger Van with the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 returns 15 mpg city, 19 highway, 17 combined with rear-wheel drive, and 14 mpg city, 19 highway, 16 combined with all-wheel drive. In expert testing, the EcoBoost all-wheel-drive van averaged 16.7 miles per gallon.

Which 2020 Ford Transit Cargo trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Transit Cargo is offered in 3 trim levels: T-150 Cargo Van, T-250, T-350.

Here's the short version:

• T-150 Cargo Van: This is the entry point and the best fit if you want the most straightforward Transit Cargo setup. It gives you the core work-van formula, and the expert review’s test vehicle shows that even a low-roof, regular-wheelbase version can be comfortable and easy to live with.
• T-250: This is the middle choice if you want to step up from the base setup without going all the way to the largest version. It makes sense if your work needs call for more capability or a different configuration than the T-150.
• T-350: This is the one to look at if you want the largest, most capable version in the lineup. It is the best fit when your priority is maximizing work-focused utility rather than keeping the van as simple as possible.

The safety content makes clear that advanced driver-assistance features are not standard across the lineup, so check carefully to make sure the trim you are considering includes the safety equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Transit Cargo?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,986 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.35% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,505, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Transit Cargo's resale value?

The current average of $22,505 sits slightly below last year's $24,556.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can work against a future seller if you buy at the wrong point in the range. On the other hand, the current average is still supported by steady demand for a versatile commercial van with multiple configurations and strong utility. If you keep the van in good condition and choose a configuration that fits common business needs, you should have a better chance of holding value than if you buy a poorly equipped or heavily worn example.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Transit Cargo safe?

The 2020 Ford Transit Cargo earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford made a whole host of driver-assistance features standard for 2020, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. Newly optional safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, front-and-rear parking sensors, cross-traffic alert, and a front/rear split-view camera system. The Transit also benefits from large windows and side mirrors that provide strong sight lines, though the rear-door pillar creates a small blind spot in the center of the rear-view mirror.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup, so you should verify exactly which driver-assistance items are included on the van you are considering.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Transit Cargo or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model year stands out for its updated powertrain options and newly standard safety tech.

The bottom line: If you want the most modern version of this van’s work-focused formula, the 2020 is the one to target. It combines updated powertrains, standard driver-assistance tech, and strong owner satisfaction, which makes it the better default choice for most shoppers. If your priority is simply finding the lowest price, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2020’s balance of features and market pricing makes it the smarter starting point.
