CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Ford Edge
overall

Summary
With 2,480 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,174.00, 32.2% of 2020 Ford Edges for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Ford Edge 4.63 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
80.0% of 2020 Edge models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Ford Edge is a midsize two-row SUV that stands out less for flash than for being a straightforward, well-equipped choice. Its design is showing signs of age, and the styling is uninspired, but it makes up for that with plenty of standard tech and safety features. It also offers easy-to-use technology, which helps give it broader appeal for shoppers who want something familiar and simple to live with.
What makes the 2020 Ford Edge distinctive is that it stays relevant through equipment rather than drama. Ford keeps it fitted with the latest infotainment and safety technology, and the lineup includes a performance variant called the Edge ST. That gives it an extra layer of interest in a segment where many rivals are more conventional. At the same time, the Edge is getting long in the tooth and its base engine is underwhelming, so it is best suited to buyers who value comfort, space, and useful features over standout driving excitement or bold design.

I was impressed with the features of the Ford Edge SE (i.e. backup camera, lane assist, multiple airbags, roominess, etc.) I was also impressed with the comfort of the seats and the comfort of the ride on rougher paved roads. Compared to my 2019 Ford Escape Titanium, I have only found two negatives: 1. Remote start is not on the keyfob but only available through the phone app 2. Manual liftgate instead of the power liftgate

This car has all the bells and whistles. Lane assist, auto headlights and whipers, wireless charging pad, number pad entry so you can leave your car running but locked, hands free lift gate sun and moon roof. The list goes on.

It is the best vehicle in its class for the money. I would compare this to an Audi SQ5, Mercedes AMG GL class, Mazda CX-5, Chevrolet Blazer, Genesis GV70 and many others.

If you find a listing below $16,716.61, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Ford Edge a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Ford Edge earns a 4.63/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the comfort, spaciousness, and modern features, and they also highlight the roomy interior and solid build quality. The Edge is especially appealing if you want a midsize SUV that works well for families and taller individuals.
The main trade-offs are its uninspired styling and underwhelming base engine. The overview also frames it as a practical, well-equipped two-row SUV rather than a standout in design or driving excitement.
With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding value if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.63/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free for many owners, with praise centered on its solid build quality and overall confidence in daily use. The expert evaluation also describes it as a solid value and a well-equipped SUV, which supports the case for steady ownership.
The main caution is that some owners reported technical issues, especially with the transmission and certain tech features, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters. For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is buying a neglected example with unresolved electronics or drivetrain concerns.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Edge?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
Start with the history report so you can confirm accident status, title status, and service consistency. Then prioritize a thorough inspection of the transmission, infotainment behavior, and any driver-assistance features that may not have been maintained or updated properly. You should also pay close attention to interior condition, since the cabin gets frequent use and some buyers will be shopping these SUVs for family duty.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE comes with a 10-way power driver’s seat, satellite radio, a WiFi hotspot, two USB ports, remote keyless entry, SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, Amazon Alexa, dual-zone climate control, and Ford Co-Pilot360. The SEL adds LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, 18-inch aluminum wheels, synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a six-way power front passenger seat, a premium audio system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Titanium adds 19-inch wheels, genuine leather upholstery, a 10-way power front passenger seat, driver’s seat memory, a wall-style power outlet, remote start, wireless charging, and a premium sound system. The ST adds a more powerful engine, standard AWD, and sportier styling.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, with front-wheel drive or available AWD through an eight-speed automatic. The ST uses a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, standard AWD, and stronger performance. The base engine is adequate around town, while the ST is the choice if you want more speed and sharper driving dynamics.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on the SEL and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go traffic capability plus active lane centering.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Voice-activated navigation with pinch-to-zoom is optional on the SEL and ST and standard on the Titanium. The system is easy to use, and the available setup adds SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link.
- Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version returns 21 mpg city, 29 highway, and 24 combined with front-wheel drive. AWD versions return 21 mpg city, 28 highway, and 23 combined. The ST returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, and 21 combined.
Which 2020 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2020 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, and ST.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE gives you a strong standard equipment list, but it lacks the upgraded comfort and convenience touches found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best value because it adds heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, LED fog lights, and a premium audio system without jumping to luxury-trim pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The Titanium is the best pick if you want the most upscale cabin, with genuine leather, wireless charging, memory seating, and the standard navigation system.
- Off-road trim: The ST is the performance choice, but its stronger engine and sport-tuned setup make it less of a daily-driver value play than the SEL or Titanium.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard across the lineup, while Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on the SEL and adds adaptive cruise control and lane centering.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Edge?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you focus on condition and price.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,485 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.68% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 78.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,716.61, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $17,160 sits slightly below last year's $18,791.
That price movement suggests the Edge has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A lower entry cost can leave more room for resale later, especially if you choose a well-equipped trim and keep the vehicle in strong condition.
The model’s broad appeal as a roomy, tech-friendly midsize SUV should help it stay relevant with used buyers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.63/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Ford Edge safe?
The 2020 Ford Edge received a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. If you move up to the SEL, you can add Co-Pilot360 Assist+ with adaptive cruise control and active lane centering.
The main caveat is that IIHS headlight performance varies by trim level, so you should pay attention to the specific vehicle’s equipment when shopping used.
Should I buy a 2020 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.68% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.63/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines standard Co-Pilot360 safety tech with easy-to-use SYNC 3 and available performance-oriented ST hardware.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $15,562, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $17,160 average.
- It offers a spacious cabin and strong performance with the same basic two-row formula.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $19,617, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $17,160 average.
- It adds a larger touchscreen and wireless smartphone integration.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety tech, and everyday usability, the 2020 is the smart target. If your priority is spending less, the 2019 is the value play; if you want newer tech and can pay more, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
