Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Dodge Challenger earns a 4.85/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, stylish looks, and comfortable ride. They also highlight the handling and responsiveness of the engine, the spacious interior, and the unique design.

On the trade-off side, the expert notes point to advanced safety features not being standard and styling that may feel polarizing. That fits a coupe aimed at you if you want classic muscle-car character, modern tech, and strong everyday usability more than broad mainstream appeal.

Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Driver feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with praise centered on the car’s strong performance and comfortable ride. The expert notes also reinforce that it is built around a durable, easy-to-live-with formula, with straightforward technology and a cabin that works well for daily use.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to the first scheduled maintenance visit being on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that performance-focused ownership can bring higher running costs, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?

At 61.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a performance coupe like this, where wear, modifications, and maintenance history can matter as much as mileage. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the car has been kept close to stock.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT includes 18-inch aluminum wheels, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The GT adds 20-inch wheels, a pronounced hood scoop, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, and unique houndstooth cloth seats. The R/T Scat Pack adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen, making it the best-value step-up if you want more comfort and equipment.
• Powertrain: The SXT and GT use a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, with rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The R/T uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V8, the R/T Scat Pack upgrades to a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 485 hp and 475 lb-ft, and Hellcat models move to supercharged 6.2-liter V8 power.
• Safety package: The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control. Other optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and the ParkSense reverse sensing system. Advanced safety features are not standard.

• Fuel efficiency: The base V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined. The V6 with AWD returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined. The 5.7-liter V8 with the 8-speed automatic returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined. The SRT Hellcat Redeye returns 13 mpg city, 21 highway, 15 combined.

Which 2020 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?

The 2020 Dodge Challenger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Scat Pack Widebody, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody, SRT Hellcat Redeye, and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Challenger look with the core comfort and tech basics. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• GT: This adds more visual presence, remote start, paddle shifters, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It is a good choice if you want the V6 setup with a little more equipment and style.
• R/T: This is the first V8 trim, so it is the right move if you care most about the classic muscle-car experience.
• R/T Scat Pack: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 6.4-liter V8, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger touchscreen.
• R/T Scat Pack Widebody: Choose this if you want the Scat Pack formula with a wider stance and the added hardware that comes with the Widebody setup.
• SRT Hellcat: This is for you if outright power is the priority and you want supercharged performance.
• SRT Hellcat Widebody: This adds the wider body and wider tires for a more planted performance setup.
• SRT Hellcat Redeye: This is the extreme-power choice, with even more output than the standard Hellcat.
• SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody: This is the most aggressive version in the lineup, combining the Redeye’s output with the Widebody treatment.

The optional technology group and other safety features are worth prioritizing if you want more driver assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,096 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.66% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,464, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Dodge Challenger's resale value?

The current average of $28,931 sits slightly below last year's $30,032.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, which can also mean future sellers may need to stay competitive on asking price. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher. The Challenger’s strong enthusiast appeal can help support demand, but condition and trim choice will still matter a lot when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger safe?

The Challenger earns a Marginal overall score from IIHS and four-star ratings in front driver-side crash testing and rollover, plus five-star ratings for front passenger-side testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should pay close attention to which options a used example has.

Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.66% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 keeps the Challenger’s retro styling, adds new colors, and includes a 50th Anniversary package for some trims.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $31,496, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,931 average.
• It leans harder into straight-line speed and high-tech performance.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and a broad selection of used listings, the 2020 is the smarter starting point. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and want the next step up in price, the 2021 is the alternative to compare.
