Used 2020 Chevrolet Equinox for Sale near California

How much does the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox cost?

Prices have softened 8.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,655 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox earns a 4.24/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, fuel economy, and value for money, and they also point to its good features for the price. The Equinox’s easy-to-use technology and standard safety equipment are recurring positives, while some owners note a lack of standard features on lower trims and a cheap-feeling interior. It fits you best if you want a practical compact crossover with a higher driving position, more cargo space, and more foul-weather capability than a midsize sedan. With 30.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?

Owners rate it 4.24/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, especially when you value comfort and everyday usability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Equinox is a basic tool of its trade, built for practical commuting rather than drama, which supports the idea that it’s meant to be counted on day to day. Chevrolet also provides a free first maintenance visit to the dealership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is not catastrophic complexity but uneven condition, especially on examples that have seen hard use or skipped maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Chevrolet Equinox?

At 66.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim you’re considering. Because lower trims can feel sparse, it’s also worth checking that the features you expect are actually present.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L, LS, LT, and Premier trims span the lineup. Lower trims are the ones most likely to leave you wanting more standard equipment, while Premier adds a more upscale look with roof rails, extra chrome detailing, and a cleaner presentation.
• Powertrain: The standard 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder makes 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder makes 252 hp and 260 lb-ft and brings stronger acceleration and the 3,500-pound towing maximum. The 1.5-liter uses a 6-speed automatic, and the 2.0-liter uses a 9-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a safe following distance monitor, and automatic high-beam headlights. A reversing camera, rear-seat reminder, and Teen Driver are also standard, while adaptive cruise control, lane change warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, and a Safety Alert Seat depend on trim.
• Infotainment: Systems use 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreens and include Bluetooth for two devices, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and Chevrolet Connected Access. Higher setups add a high-definition display, cloud connectivity, improved voice recognition, HD Radio, satellite radio, navigation, and a Bose premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.5-liter turbo AWD version averaged 24.3 mpg in testing, versus an EPA combined rating of 28 mpg. The 2.0-liter turbo version averaged 22.1 mpg, versus an EPA combined rating of 24 mpg.

Which 2020 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LS, LT, and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest way into the Equinox, but it’s also the trim most likely to leave you short on the features owners value most. Buy it only if price matters more than equipment.
• LS: This is the practical value play. It keeps the core Equinox formula intact and is the trim that makes the most sense if you want the basics without stretching for extras.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it opens the door to more equipment and can be paired with the Midnight Edition appearance package. If you want a better-equipped Equinox without going all the way to Premier, start here.
• Premier: This is the most upscale version, with the richer cabin presentation, the available 2.0-liter turbo engine, and the most complete feature set. Choose it if you want the nicest Equinox experience and don’t mind paying more for it.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard across the lineup, but some driver-assistance upgrades still depend on trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Chevrolet Equinox?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,655 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,325, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $15,325 sits slightly below last year's $16,659.

That price decline suggests the Equinox has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you pay close to the current market average, your downside is more manageable than it would be on a vehicle that is still dropping quickly. Strong demand for practical compact crossovers should also help keep the model relevant with used shoppers.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.24/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox is a Top Safety Pick and earns five-star ratings in each NHTSA evaluation, plus a four-star rating for rollover resistance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a safe following distance monitor, and automatic high-beam headlights. A reversing camera, rear-seat reminder, and Teen Driver are also standard. Depending on trim, you can also get adaptive cruise control, lane change warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, and a Safety Alert Seat.

One caveat is that blind-spot warning is not as broadly accessible as it should be, so you should verify whether the specific listing includes the driver-assistance features you want.

Should I buy a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.24/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for standard advanced safety features and easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $13,903, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $15,325 average.
• It adds HD rear-view and surround-view cameras, which help address the model’s visibility weakness.

The bottom line: the 2020 is the better all-around pick if you want the strongest mix of safety, tech, and market availability. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2019 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one with the camera and infotainment upgrades in good condition.
